Frozen sprouts... because I hate sitting there on Christmas Eve even if it is tradition peeling and criss-crossing the little bastards. My hands get sore and my patience even thinner...

Yours?

Delegate as much as possible.

Frozen sprouts are horrible slimy buggers - don't do it. Also don't criss cross them it lets the water in . You could prepare your veg a few days beforehand ,boil for 4-5 minutes. Plunge in very cold water to cool asap. Put in sandwich/plastic bags, put in fridge and then on Christmas day reboil until cooked.

Ive never crossed my sprouts. Been making Christmas dinners for over 20 yrs.

You don't have to criss cross them, it's a myth. And don't M&S (at least, probably others) sell peeled fresh ones?

SusieFlo · 17/12/2018 16:03

wrist-band scotch tape dispensers

I always have and the frozen ones are "okay"... Thought looking at freezer space, I might swap to fresh...

But peeling sprouts is a pain, that's why you pay extra for peeled ones. You also lose some of the weight in the bits that get chopped off.

Agree with delegation and that frozen sprouts are horrible. Assuming that you're not the only adult eating Christmas Dinner, get someone else to peel the sprouts.

Why are we even having sprouts?!

Make Yorkshire puddings (if you’re having them) and roast potatoes in advance. Freeze them and then just reheat them in the oven on the big day. Perfect and, if possible, the roast potatoes are better second time around!

Perfect and, if possible, the roast potatoes are better second time around! How would I do them in advance, just cook as usual, freeze, defrost then bung in the oven for say 30 mins?

Frozen mashed potato is quick and easy, and it tastes just the same as home made. No one will ever know!

My DS insists on mash with his Christmas dinner, I don't have time to make it from scratch on the day so have used frozen for the past few years.
