I have just been called ignorant

I'm on a travel group Facebook page for a particular destination.

Poster says her DD has chicken pox, they are due to travel in 6 days. I advise not to due to the immunocompromised, pregnant woman etc being exposed unnecessarily during a long haul flight. I've had some support but mostly people saying 'don't be so ridiculous, let OP enjoy her holiday, it's only contagious if they touch her' and just now I've been called ignorant for trying to advise OP differently and that it's probably just a mild dose and she should travel anyway.

I love FB Grin please share your FB group stories!

Isn't it in fact airborne till the spots crust over? Don't worry OP most people here will agree with you! People have died from chicken pox it's a much more serious illness than people realise.

As they've already got the spots then they'll no longer be contagious in six days. Still a good idea to get a note from the doctor to confirm they're fit to fly though.

Ignorant is harsh, but lacking in relevant knowledge, possibly?

StealingYourWiFi · 17/12/2018 12:23

Yes advised to see the GP of course for a fit to fly Grin most are saying just go.

Not an argument but on a Florida page someone asked if they needed to buy a #Disney ticket to have their picture took next to the castle. Made me laugh.

sigh. yes, that's a great use of a GPs time in the middle of winter. It's not like we're busy or anything.....

Snowwontbelong · 17/12/2018 12:27

Hope she gets refused at the airport -

adaline · 17/12/2018 12:29

In six days? She'll probably be fine by then - no need to make a decision either way yet.

Fairenuff · 17/12/2018 12:41

Yes the airport could refuse travel.

MrsPear · 17/12/2018 13:20

A woman was refused to board with her spotty child when we were leaving in the summer - it was British Airways to Gatwick. The child only had a few. What’s the point of risking it?! Let alone the possibility of infecting others.

DD had new spots coming almost two weeks after the first appeared.
