Ds ill, y11 mock exams

My ds is 15 and in year 11. He is due to commence the second week of his gcse mock exams.

Yesterday he was off colour and very quiet, and didn't come down for tea (roast chicken, so very unusual!) and went to bed instead.

In the night he was up being sick and was feverish and shaky.

This morning he is still running a fever, feels very weak and hasn't eaten in 24h. He is also complaining of a sore throat.

My kids are not very often sick (maybe twice in the last 5 years) so he is genuinely ill and is not trying to pull a fast one. He sat 8 exams last week and only has 3 remaining.

AIBU to keep him off today and miss the mock exam (one of two in that subject)?

If he has been sick you have to keep him off.

Unfortunate timing but at least it’s ‘only’ a mock so can be done next term if needed

Absolutely keep him off . Ring school and let his form teacher know. I expect he will have to do his missed exams as soon as he is healthy enough to return to school. Hope he feels better soon

Keep him off he’s vomited school procedure will be at least 24 hours off. Don’t stress about mocks he can do it next term.

Thanks for the replies. I am the kind of person who would drag myself in over hot coals for an exam and have brought up the dcs to just crack on.

However with his usual clean bill of health he's probably picked up this virus in an exam hall packed with 200 kids. I work in NHS so would enforce 48h clear rule under normal circumstances. I asked him if they had advised about (real) exams and sickness. He said yes, if you are sick on the day you must go in and sit your exam in an isolation room with a sick bucket. Not sure how well a vomiting kid would do on a gcse paper anyway...
