How would you describe a cold that’s even to keep you off work?

I need to text my manager to say I won’t be in work. I’ve got a cold. It’s not flu but I feel like crap-sweating,headache, absolutely full of snot, no appetite. I don’t want to ramble on but saying ‘I’ve got a cold’ doesn’t quite cut it.

I’d probably say I’m not well enough to come in. Are you sure you’re alllowed to text? Many workplaces say that you must phone. At which point it’s easier to explain its a very bad cold.

A virus. Which isn’t a lie.

Sorry, to add, there are some horrible bugs about this year, which are bad colds rather than flu, but are keeping people off their work. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you, I started with it on Saturday and it’s floored me. Yes there’s no problem with me texting. I’ll say it’s a virus.

Just say you have a bad cold. There are over 200 different viruses that cause the common cold, some are more debilitating than others.

"I've got a stinking cold which has really floored me"
Just say what you said here. The truth.
Hope you feel better soon!

Upper respiratory infection?

WhirlwindHugs · 17/12/2018 06:29

I'd mention that you have a bad cold and fever. You clearly can't go in with a fever!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/12/2018 08:47

Just say a really bad cold, or a flu-ey cold.
Nobody at work would thank you for passing it on shortly before Christmas.
Personally I've never had a cold that actually made me feel ill, but a friend has, often, genuinely feeling really rough and taking to her bed.

NotCitrus · 17/12/2018 08:50

Flu-like lurgy. Hope it goes away in a day or two.

ApolloandDaphne · 17/12/2018 08:52

I would call it a flu-like virus.

BabySharkAteMyHamster · 17/12/2018 08:53

Sinus infection.
