Crapping hell - DH has done all of Christmas and I don't even have a present for him

CanoeingInCocoPop · 15/12/2018 14:58

I've had a stressy December and Christmas has pretty much slipped my mind Shock

Been opening the door to parcels today - and the penny's dropped that DH has taken the initiative got Christmas lists for the kids & ordered the necessary stuff. He then turns up with a car boot full of christmassy snacks & has now pootled off to a Christmas tree farm.

I've expressed appreciation - and been told that that's what partnership is about - but crapping hell I don't have a present for him! Correction - I have a multipack of socks laid aside for him - which is somehow so much worse than even nothing.

Last delivery dates hurtling towards me - and I'm proper panicking I'm an awful person here! If the genders were reversed - this'd be so judged!

MN gift guide for men has been no help because:

  • he doesn't drink
  • he's very particular about his gadgets, and there's no point getting something in that vein without specific instructions
  • he won't want clothes because he's been talking about losing weight in new year, so I'll get it wrong either by having it fit wrong or by having the size he doesn't want

Edibles not needed - he's got a lot already. Possibly like house stuff.. or something for the office ...- though that feels a bit odd for a Christmas present... or nice toiletries (though nice ones are pricey and cheaper ones feel like you didn't put much thought in).

Please hive mind - hit me with something awesome...

What a fabulous husband! Maybe a handmade voucher for a day off to do whatever he likes one weekend in January! Or fitness related stuff eg cool activewear

MerdedeBrexit · 15/12/2018 16:43

AnotherEmma - thank you for that Fossil link, I'm so grateful to you, I got what I hope is exactly the right one for the husband, and what's more, it was in the sale Grin Whether it will get here in time, who knows, as we live in the desert, but I can but try Grin
(Sorry to highjack, OP, hope you've found the right wallet for your husband, too!)

I bought my DH a bonsai tree this year for his birthday and it is yielding an endless supply of future gifts. Its fantastic. He's getting little tools and a bottle of bonsai food this Xmas. He's not a plant man at all, but he is enjoying pottering around with his tiny tree.

SpeckledyHen · 15/12/2018 16:47

Sonos ?

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 15/12/2018 16:50

If he’s slightly geeky inclined, would he like a good board game? Something like Azul?

There’s a book called “and the rest is noise” about 20th century music.

BrendasUmbrella · 15/12/2018 16:52

If the genders were reversed - this'd be so judged!

If the genders were reversed, it would be so normal...

But that aside, I hope everything works out! And no, don't buy him a turntable, especially one of those Crosley horrors. If he has pride in his collection he'll probably be particular about the player.

Star Trek box set...

CanoeingInCocoPop · 15/12/2018 16:57

I've been browsing office chairs - thought that was the perfect balance between special and practical enough to justify ££££- but I've given up - think that's too personal.... I was going to click through for a pricey 'ergonomic' super stylish one - but the reviews were very polarised between folk that raved about it and folk who hated it - so I guess he'd want to try it...

Another one for sheep skin slippers.

Would you have time/finances to get a handyman in to fix up some of the things in the house as a surprise?

CanoeingInCocoPop · 15/12/2018 17:03

Mmmm - maybe I should get a handyman - its a bit depressing having planks of wood around . I meant to do it myself tbh - but it's not happened...

What's your budget and does he have an old CD collection. There is a CD ripper/storage device that will connect with an at home multi room audio system (like Sonos or audio pro) and also connect with existing speakers....

A man is never disappointed in a quality pair of binoculars. It will fit in with him losing weight, for sure he will be out walking at some point and in any event these can accompany you in the car on days out.

He may even scan the garden with them at this time of year for a robin, or in summer a nice pair of tits.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 15/12/2018 17:12

There is a shit-ton of trek gear you can buy - everything from backpacks and pens to little model spaceships, jewellery, mugs, you name it.

Some is obviously badged some is more subtle and only a like minded person would spot the reference :D

GimmeBread · 15/12/2018 17:12

Sounds a wee bit like my husband except he'd be fucking delighted with the socks!! Maybe, it depends on the quality - his have got to be thick socks as in industrially thick. That's all he's asked for. I once bought him a perfectly lovely sock set from Next - he asked if I'd kept the receipt. To exchange socks! He's so picky!

LannieDuck · 15/12/2018 17:17

A boardgame?

fruitpastille · 15/12/2018 17:17

Depending on musical tastes, this poster is great. If you get it from habitat it has a nice gold frame but I can't get the link to work.

You should definitely get a record player. There is a crosley one in a case that is quite cheap but can be easily moved anywhere in the house so you don't have to listen

Moonsick · 15/12/2018 17:37

Instead of a chair how about a desk like this so he can work standing up? Disclaimer : I use mine to work in bed and on the sofa too Grin. It folds away nicely, lightweight but sturdy, extendable legs and the top tilts to a comfortable angle. It’s nice to rest my iPad on too as well as my laptop.

queenrollo · 15/12/2018 17:38

My husband is a vinyl geek and a sound system bore and I would never buy him a record player. I've seen his geek off with others on facebook and the difference in opinion between makers and models etc is astounding.

If you think he would like a deck then simply make him a 'voucher' to get himself one in the new year. My husband would be beyond happy with that.

moodyblues · 15/12/2018 17:45

fruitpastille I could kiss you. Thank you for that link, it’s perfect for my dh, he will love it.
