WWYD non fault motor accident claim

Yesterday my car was parked on a road and a van reversed into it, cracking the bumper.

I wasn’t in the car at the time, but when I returned, a man came out of a nearby house, fessed up and produced his insurance docs. Pretty decent of him all in all.

I’ve reported it to my insurers, he’s reported it to his, admitting liability. I’ve provusionally booked it in with my insurers to be fixed (via a claim management company i think). Last night, his insurers phoned, offering to deal with them direct.

I don’t know which to do. Which is simpler? It shouldn’t affect affect my NCD, I have protected NCD anyway, and it’s a non fault accident, and my insurers say there’s no excess to pay anyway. The rep from the other drivers insurers say that claims handling companies make money by charging “at fault”’insurers exhirbitant rates for car hire, which they may refuse to settle in full, leaving me to pay any (potential) balance.

Collective wisdom please? Thoughts, comments, experiences.....

When my car got written-off (other party at fault) a claims handler from their insurance turned up at my doorstep! Offered me all kinds of things. I decided to stick to my insurer dealing with it. I can see that it is more expensive for the fault insurer as they'll have access to their own car hire etc, but I personally felt that it would be handing the other party insurer all the control and if things did go wrong it would be much harder for me to sort out.

I'd ring your insurer/claims handler and specifically ask them about you being left liable for a big bill. There is usually a load of conditions about the hire car and excess/damage to that if you have an accident. I'd be surprised if you could be left with a bill if the other insurer doesn't agree with what they're invoiced by your insurer, though.

God no. Get your insurers to sort it all. No sense putting your time and energy and worry and lack of knowledge on how these things work into it.
