I look old

I'm 32 and have started to look old. I've always had a longer face and it's going slimmer as I'm older so the bump in my nose is more obvious. I can see lines around my eyes and forehead. I look old

You sound like my twin! I'm a similar age and over the last couple of years I've really noticed a change.

I've been making an effort to exfoliate my face (the dry skin seems to "hold" the fine lines) and use moisturiser.

I've never really worn makeup or worried too much about hair, but feel like I need to make an effort - just not sure where to start.

It doesn't help that I have an active toddler, so am constantly in jeans when not at work. My body shapes changed through pregnancy and hasn't settled yet, so work clothes aren't great either.

So I've not got any tips, but wanted to show solidarity and hope someone else might have some ideas I can steal!

Lots of water, vitamin c supplement is great to plump up you skin also avocados and anything with good oils. My friend who has similar face shape swears by buttermilk. She just drinks some everyday. I can tell by her skin when she's been drinking it.

CakeNinja · 14/12/2018 21:43

I was the same at the start of the year.
A year older than you.
Slipped 2 discs in my back, was on loads of medication, minimal food as my appetite was sapped by the medication and I barely left the house for months.
Went for a facial about 4 months ago and got some good advice.
Invest in really good skincare for your needs.
I cleanse, use acids and retinols,
Serums and various other moisturisers,
Spritzer things and potions. More importantly now use a daily facial spf and my skin looks better than it has done in years!
Don’t just launch into buying everything you can lay your hands on, speak to someone or read up a bit about skincare. It’s worth it.
I’m not into makeup but I will now never take my skin for granted!

Just accept it
It's you

DaysOfCurlySpencer · 14/12/2018 22:25

I only ever used water on my face and a bit of moisturiser, often Clarins because I had them given to me. I didn't start to look old until I hit 39 and that was just the nose to mouth lines. Never drank water only tea but used to be very active, always on my feet at work and swam a lot. Ate healthily too, lots of vegetables and salads.

Genetics also make a difference.

I used to be pretty Xmas Blush

OP same here. I used to be pretty. It's really hard.

groundcontroltomontydon · 15/12/2018 08:35

I caught a glimpse of myself in a shop mirror this week and gasped audibly. I look like a burst poached egg.

Verbena87 · 15/12/2018 08:37

I stick to water on my face, exercise a fair bit and drink lots of water as well. I’m 31 and I’m starting to look old regardless of the above. We are getting older. It’s ok. Men haven’t been taught to spend a shed-load of time, effort and money on making their skin look perpetually youthful so I’ve decided I don’t need to bother either.

My mum is wrinkly but she looks vibrant and gorgeous because she smiles and laughs a lot and frowns rarely, so her personality is mapped in her face - so I am making an effort to scowl a bit less!!

BDAC · 15/12/2018 08:49

a burst poach eggGrin. I always drink lots of water but could eat more veg

JoyceDivision · 15/12/2018 08:52

I slather bio oil round my eyes on anight to try and soften the creeping linesBlush

But, not bothered about looking young for my age, just would be nice to look good for my age.

In fairness I never wear make up or do my hair, and live in jeans, just try to keep a positive attitude on life.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 15/12/2018 08:59

If you're pretty you're pretty. Age doesn't change that. And 32 is very young. Accept what you have.

BobbyBanana · 15/12/2018 09:00

You will continue to get older every day of your life.

Concentrate on what's going on inside you and what effect you are having on the world.

Do good turns, do what makes you happy and remember - if you were a man this wouldn't matter one iota. Why should it to you?

JoyceDivision · 15/12/2018 09:18

I remember talking to a friend I don't get to catch up with too often and noticed she hardly had any lines around her eyes.

She is rushed off her feet and has a work hard but home lazy DH and replied "That's because I never laugh"

No way could I think like that! Laughter lines all the way for me thanks! Grin

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/12/2018 09:19

Age can change your looks.
I look absolutely nothing like me teenage self.

BDAC · 15/12/2018 09:49

I think my type of face longer with cheekbones and not much fat on it ages worse aswell

OP posts:
Verbena87 · 15/12/2018 09:52

Yep, I’ve a thin bony face too, but it’s mine and I like it. Suppose we could get fat and plump up our cheeks, but I like being able to run uphill fast enough to be reasonably competitive in races, so will keep my scrawny sinewy self as it is!

LostInShoebiz · 15/12/2018 09:53

If you're pretty you're pretty. Age doesn't change that.

I hate to be a dog in a manger but she does change that doesn’t it? If you’re strikingly beautiful and have good bone structure then that’s likely to stay through aging but “pretty” is generally associated with youth isn’t it? Little girls are often pretty, 40 year old women often aren’t.

Probably best to think about what’s making you feel unpretty and tackle it logically. Is it loss of volume? Then get more good fats. Is it tiredness? Sleep more, use products that will perk up the tired looking areas. Is it texture? Exfoliate more or better, consider products to speed up cell turnover.

Snowwontbelong · 15/12/2018 09:55

Getting braces soon at 47!! May be aging but teeth gonna be better!!

gamerwidow · 15/12/2018 10:00

I look like a woman in their 40s but that’s ok because I am a woman in my 40s. Yes I have wrinkles and my skin isn’t as firm as it used to be but I’m still an attractive woman and I don’t need to be in competition with women in their 20s who are obviously going to look younger.
Who says looking young is the be all and end all of everything anyway.
Embrace aging and like yourself for you are now. No one can turn back the clock and you’ll only make yourself miserable if you don’t accept it.

BDAC · 15/12/2018 10:14

I've got a bone structure like Jennier Aniston I guess? it's unfair how men become distinguished and we just age

OP posts:
LostInShoebiz · 15/12/2018 10:16

Don’t you think Meryl Street and Fiona Shaw are getting more distinguished rather than just aging? It’s about what you do with what you have.

MiddlingMum · 15/12/2018 10:40

I've looked old for decades. It's okay though.

I am fitter than a lot of people twenty years younger, can run for miles, and the look on teenage boys faces when an elderly-looking woman with grey hair overtakes them at speed on her bicycle on a steep hill is worth every wrinkle. Grin

Weirdly, my brother doesn't seem to age, he's looked exactly the same for about 30 years.

HumourlessFeminist · 15/12/2018 10:43

I'm just going to start telling everyone I'm 5 years older than I actually am, then they'll think I look great for my age 😄.

Joking aside, is it the end of the world to begin to look older? I'm aiming for happy (I'm not really humourless, honest 😉) and healthy.

HumourlessFeminist · 15/12/2018 10:45

BDAC, the idea that men look more distinguished, while women look older is just down to our socialisation. I love my grey hairs 😄.
