Does your heating go into frost mode if the temperature drops? I don’t think leaving the windows open would affect your pipes, but it’s going cold tonight if you’re up north!

VictoriaBun · 14/12/2018 19:32

Is your central heating coming on/off ? If so you are probably ok as when the temperature drops it should kick in. If not your fucked !

PotteringAlong · 14/12/2018 19:33

If nothing else, from a safety point if view why leave the house overnight with the windows open?!

Hofuckingho · 14/12/2018 19:33

I'd be more concerned about someone breaking in.

MarcieBluebell · 14/12/2018 19:34

No there's no heating. O christ.

No heating? I think you’re in trouble then.

MarcieBluebell · 14/12/2018 19:35

Would you go back? !

How open are your windows and how many are open and how insulated is your house and are your pipes lagged and what was the temperature when you left?

SandunesAndRainclouds · 14/12/2018 19:37

Why are your windows open?!

hiddenmnetter · 14/12/2018 19:38

And how long are you gone?

LIZS · 14/12/2018 19:39

If there is no heating I think unlagged pipes would freeze anyway, if it is cold enough. Are the windows wide open or just the odd toplight slightly. You might get frost on the inside of the glass!

Keel · 14/12/2018 19:39

Can a neighbour or relative help?

ApolloandDaphne · 14/12/2018 19:41

If you haven't left the heating on i don't think the window being open or closed will make much difference to how cold your house will get. Where about in the country are you? It is going to be very cold in Scotland but less so in the south. Would you normally leave your heating off when going away at this time of year?

Pidgeot · 14/12/2018 19:41

Depends where you are, have you checked the weather? We've got an Amber weather warning for snow and ice.
Also I wouldn't want rain lashing in the window at the weekend.

GrannyHaddock · 14/12/2018 19:41

Where's your house? I just checked the forecast for Inverness, close to but not below freezing all weekend. Anyway the loft is the likeliest place to freeze, not the house itself, open windows or not. It'll be fine.

cricketmum84 · 14/12/2018 19:42

Why on Earth have you gone away and left your windows open????

Bloody burglars paradise!

Ohyesiam · 14/12/2018 19:45

Where do you love? We’re not forecast a freeze in the west country.

Charmlight · 14/12/2018 19:57

I don’t think it’s given pipe freezing temps anywhere....

MarcieBluebell · 14/12/2018 21:07

Ok so my df went for me to shut them. They were wide open. Apparently it was freezing inside so he put the heating on to last an hour.

I'll buy him a cake next time I see him. Thanks everyone.

I was going to say, I don't think it's going to be cold enough for pipes to freeze anywhere in the UK this weekend.. That requires temperatures substantially below zero, and even then it's unlikely if your loft is well insulated.

nottakingthisanymore · 14/12/2018 21:19

But I really need to know why they were open ......

LadyPasserine · 14/12/2018 21:46

Well put it into context....
Are you in Thurso or St Ives?
Big difference.
What pipes are you worried about?
