Feeding chairs- Padded? Wooden? Size? High chair? Bumbo seats? Argh!

Where do I start? I just want to find a chair to feed my six month old. What must-have criteria do you find/found useful? Are 'extras' like detachable tables, padding etc just gizmos so I pay more?

Recommendations please!

Ikea Antilop. The only chair anyone needs.

LastOneDancing · 14/12/2018 14:07

Yep. Ikea antilop.

You can move it one handed, it's rock steady and when it gets disgusting, throw it in the garden & hose it off. Brilliant chair.

LastOneDancing · 14/12/2018 14:08

Oh sorry - we bought, but never used the padding, but yes to the attachable tray/table and get a good spinny toy thing with a sucker on the bottom.

Oh brill. So you're saying I don't need the padding and the harness is unnecessary? Is it ok for a six month old who can't sit up unaided (well, can kind of sit up folded over her own legs but I would imagine she needs a bit of support for digestion... sorry , I'm very new to all this)?

@TheRhythmlessCarolMan I agree with above but get the padding and harness, padding is good for now to help prop them up and harness for when there 2 and try and BLOODY CLIME OUT 😂

HJWT · 14/12/2018 14:28

CLIMB

elQuintoConyo · 14/12/2018 14:36

Antilop every time. No small hard to get to grooves where food can get stuck and dry

We were given a Bumbo but ds just kept tipping it!

TheRhythmlessCarolMan · 14/12/2018 14:57

How long (years?) does the ikea seat last? Or will I need to buy something bigger soon?

OP posts:
HJWT · 14/12/2018 15:07

@TheRhythmlessCarolMan my dad is 2 1/2 almost and 91st centile she will probably fit till she needs a proper chair x

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 14/12/2018 15:10

Ikea all the way. You can’t beat it for £15.

Sometimes after a particularly messy meal I take it into the garden and hose it down- no nooks and crannies or fabric seams to get food stuck down and it’s wipes clean so easily.

Marmite27 · 14/12/2018 15:10

Ikea Antilop. Seriously it’s the best there is. Wish I’d got one with my first rather than spending £60 on a wooden one Confused

You can get a blow up cushion if DC is a bit little. Ours has been covered in assorts and still comes up clean as does the tray. It’s quite miraculous!

Marmite27 · 14/12/2018 15:12

Oh and my 3 year old wanted to sit in it last week. She still fits! She’s 50th percentile so pretty average Wink

Noloudnoises · 14/12/2018 15:34

Ikea antilop still going strong for almost 3 year old. Never used the harness. The cushion insert is very good for little ones and can easily be thrown in the wash or sponged down. It's blow-up so can be pouffy for a little one and less so as they get bigger. And fab for hosing off in the garden.

All you need. I promise!

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 14/12/2018 15:36

Never used the harness

Thank god, I thought I was the only one who never bothered with it! Grin

Noloudnoises · 14/12/2018 15:39

Btw amazon do a sucker silicone tray that fits perfectly within the tray of the antilop tray which I'm going to try for number two. Number one had a tendancy to excitedly spread his food around on the tray making a huge mess.

Mwnci123 · 14/12/2018 15:43

Yup, IKEA Antelope. You can put it in the dishwasher- woohoo. By the time they're getting a bit big for it they can manage on a chair.

Do get the harness and get your baby used to it, though. Mine whinged a lot about being strapped in and I thought she was safe so didn't bother, but she fell (dived really) out of a high chair once and I still get the absolute horrors and guilt about it. It wasn't the Antelope she fell out of, but these things can happen very quickly once your baby is on the move.

LettuceP · 14/12/2018 15:53

Another vote for antilop. You just can't beat it, I mean it goes in the dishwasher fgs Grin

Chewbecca · 14/12/2018 15:57

Our Tripp trapp is still going 15 years after we bought it.

Marmite27 · 14/12/2018 16:21

Those saying get the harness for the Antilop - am I missing something? I thought it came with a strap? Or are you talking about something else?

HJWT · 14/12/2018 16:25

@Marmite27 the lap straps

Frozenteatowel · 14/12/2018 16:28

Yet another vote for the antilop. DGD is 3 1/4 and still fits in it comfortably. She only uses it if there aren’t enough adult chairs when there are guests. So easy to clean.

thomasthecheekyone · 14/12/2018 17:07

5 point harness is essential for my climber. She climbed out of a lap belt at 7 months in the blink of an eye!

thomasthecheekyone · 14/12/2018 17:08

Also, entirely wipe clean is essential. Straps on then bib helps keep them clean. We have the Aldi equivalent of the ikea one. It's was £7

TheRhythmlessCarolMan · 14/12/2018 17:42

Haha I guess it's the ikea antilope then!!! Thank you everyone for your input. I'm so glad i asked.

(You can put it in the dishwasher???)

OP posts:
Marmite27 · 14/12/2018 18:05

Yes, the tray and seat part even fit in our slimline dishwasher.

We donated 4 new ones to the village hall, we jet wash them every so often for them.
