she was holding a carrier bag and 2 pavkets of chocolates all in one hand, dropped just one bag of chocs into her carrier bag and then just put the others back on the shelf

it happened so quickly that i thought to myself, no tgat didnt hapoen, yet there was the unmistaken sound if something dropping into her bag

Believe me, shoplifting is extremely common. I've worked in retail for a large supermarket chain and there wasn't a day goes by almost where there were no shoplifters, and that was just what we knew about!
Also, shoplifters don't always look and act in a 'stereo typical' kind of way. Some can be who you wouldn't suspect in a million years!, such as an elderly, presentable person.

Don’t they all! 🙄

Years ago I saw some guys stealing alcohol from M&S. They clocked that I’d seen them and made a quick exit. I reported it but I don’t think the staff member even did anything or seemed remotely interested.

Shop lifting in WH Smith? Blimey, they must be desperate. The chocolates are probably out of date anyway, priced up at £7.99 each or two for £20.

Jackshouse · 14/12/2018 16:24

I once saw a man walk out of Morrisons with a handbasket full of bottles of spirits with the security tags on.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/12/2018 16:28

I saw a woman shoplift in a little Waitrose in a petrol station the other day.

She paid for her petrol and left, then wandered back in yelling ‘did I leave my card?’ a few times then left agin - and as she did picked up a large pantone on her way out.

flissfloss65 · 14/12/2018 16:30

I saw two very unsubtle shoplifters run out of TKMaxx with the stolen goods in the shop basket.

Got stopped before they got to their car.

Youngandfree · 14/12/2018 16:33

Once I was looking at jewelry in accessorize and a guy just walked in, took a pair of ladies sandals and walked out. 🤣

OnceInABlueMoon9 · 14/12/2018 16:33

A guy a few years ago walked into my local Co-op, grabbed ham, cheese, and about 3 other bits off the shelf, without trying to hide it in any way then walked back out again. He knew that he had been seen as made no attempt to hide it but wasn’t bothered in the slightest. I didn’t report it as that was when I lived in a rough area and tbh I was a bit worried what could happen Blush

I saw a woman try cardigans on her daughters in Sainsbury's and then they walked out with them on.

Someone saw me see them shoplifting in boots (camera filmso some time ago) and came and spat on my face. So that was pleasant Confused

I once walked out of primark with something I hadn't paid for completely by accident. The security guard looked baffled when I realised and took it back to him 5 minutes later! I wonder if onlookers thought I'd been shoplifting!

PinkHeart5914 · 14/12/2018 16:38

Why didn’t they just buy the chocolate from another retailer for a fair price? WHSmith overprices sweets like nobody else!

Jaxtellerswife · 14/12/2018 16:39

I was in boots a couple of years ago and a man strolled in, casually grabbed a few gift sets and ran hell for leather out of there. We told the people at the counter and they said 'yep. We told them not to put the gift sets at the door'
Fair enough

hmmwhatatodo · 14/12/2018 16:41

I often seem to get followed or watched by security people in shops which not only makes it really hard to act natural it’s also quite upsetting to wonder what it is about the look of me that makes them think I’m going to take something. It’s even more disappointing when I wouldn’t dream of taking anything.

BearSoFair · 14/12/2018 16:41

I work in WHSmith in a fairly decent sized shopping centre, weirdly we're one of the top shops for stealing! Plenty of other shops around with more valuable stock but we're the easiest target because of such low staff levels. It's no exagerration when I say barely a day goes by where we don't lose something. As quickly as we can identify, catch, and ban one person, a new one is in in their place!

AwdBovril · 14/12/2018 16:44

Someone shoplifted an entire set of kitchen units from the shop I worked at once. I came in one day, & apparently the previous day (my day off) someone had walked out with a full set of flatpack units. Apparently whoever was on the checkouts hadn't checked they were actually paid for... the manager had a face like thunder.

frogsbreath · 14/12/2018 16:47

I saw a man steal a full basket of cheese blocks in a Tesco express once. I saw him clear the shelf into a basket then he just walked out. I shouted to the till and the woman just sighed and said cheese is popular this time of year (I can't remember what time of year it was!).

She said they sell it on in pubs Grin

Kemer2018 · 14/12/2018 16:49

I saw a guy shoplifter in Poundland this week. Unusually, this one must have pissed the bed as it was only 8.30a.m 😂😂
The woman assistant yelled, chased him and grabbed the calendar from him.

I recently saw a women pick up a carton of milk and then walk right out of the shop. Didn’t do anything about it, assumed she must have been desperate.

boringlyboring · 14/12/2018 16:54

Years ago, I worked at Boots, a woman brought 2 premium face creams to my till to get a refund as they ‘gave her an allergic reaction’. Had to get managers approval, as there was no receipt and she didn’t question it, just profusely apologised to the ‘customer’ while urging me to hand over £80 in cash.

Security guard told me, after checking footage, that the woman had walked in, picked them up off the counter and came to the till 😂

QueenCity · 14/12/2018 17:01

All of you that have witnessed people shoplifting have you reported it? After years working in retail I have a sixth sense and forever see people shoplifting. Depending on the situation I either report it to a member of staff/security guard or simply say in a loud voice something along the lines of "Are you going to pay for that bottle of wine you've just shoved up your jumper/under the prom etc" They normally just drop the stock and leave the shop quickly.
