He has all the Horrid Henry books, loves Roahl Dahl and David Walliams His reading age is slightly below average so I would like something with illustrations to assist the text.

I would also be interest in any books on CD for his age. Many thanks.

Dixie O'Day series by Shirley Hughes and Claire Vuillamy (her DD!)
Claude series by Alex T Smith
Foxy Tales (can't remember author but my DS was chortling all the way through.
Oliver and the Sea Wigs by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre (all that series are fab)
Astrosaurs by Steve Cole

All those have lots and lots of pictures, and are engaging enough for someone that finds reading is work not play yet.

You could try How to Train Your Dragon series by Cressida Cowell too- if you read them to him. The stories are amazing (it's one huge story arc across 13 books, but each is a standalone adventure) and the vocabulary is really good- stretching but not in a way that feels a struggle.

For audio, I'd really recommend the Eoin Colfer books The Legend of Spud Murphy, and The Worst Boy in the World. I've been known to listen to these by myself! Blush
They're v funny, and whilst the books are good for his age, there aren't many pictures.

Ottoline, Goth Girl and Tom Gates are series that all go down well here.

Sigh... children that age are just spoilt for choice nowadays! So many good books. My two loved Ottiline and Goth Girl. I think they read Tom Gates when they were a little older (maybe 8 or 9)

Mine loves the books by Pamela Butchart - the 'My headteacher is a vampire' rat' series is her favourite, but she also likes the Wigglesbottom Primary series.

The Land of Green Ginger by Noel Langley. It is a sequel to the Aladdin story that has a flying back garden, a magician who has accidentally turned himself into a button-nosed tortoise, villains called Tin Tack Ping Foo and Rub Dub Ben Thud, and a donkey who sits on a pin.

EugenesAxe · 15/12/2018 00:29

My DS loves all those authors too and is an avid reader. He is well into Tom Gates (funny, lots of doodles), and comics/graphic books. Dog Man by Dave Pilkey is hilarious and aimed at younger readers. DS also loves Bunny vs Monkey (Phoenix Presents - to be honest tons of that range are fantastically funny). Other books for slightly younger readers that DS has really loved are Isla Fisher’s Aunt Marge stories, Pirate Blunderbeard, and the Dadventure series (latter might be more wordy though). Also the Rabbit and Bear series.

Spiderwick Chronicles, they're fun and easy to read. Also the Charlie bone series is great. I still read it now.

I love MNet, thank you all. These will keep me going for ages. I am thinking of keeping some at my house for when they all visit.
