....the true reason you can never find the end of the rainbow is because they’re a CIRCLE!

Well, who knew?! Not me obviously.

I drove through a rainbow on the motorway. I was sad because both my dcs were asleep so I was the only one to see it, apart from the other people in their cars.
If you see a rainbow from an aeroplane they are circular.

plus3 · 14/12/2018 21:49

I am sure I have driven through a rainbow - was ridiculously excited & obviously was concentrating on the motorway ...
The rainbow was on a very gentle bend on the motorway as the motorway straightened up I drove through it.
Happy for the physics to prove me wrong but I need serious explaination, as I am confident I went though it & left it behind me

MiniMum97 · 14/12/2018 22:04

I've seen the end of a rainbow too. I used to live in a 6th floor flat and the rainbow ended in the estate. I could see the end if the rainbow reaching the ground but people on the ground were just walking through it obliviously so presumably you can't see it when up close which is why you can never find the end if one! Don't get how they are circles?!?

Nonomore2 · 15/12/2018 04:57

@youmatter
Underneath the text box there should be an icon of a paperclip. Can you see it? Press that and select your photo.
Hopefully it’s same layout on device you are on!

WheelyCoteClaus · 15/12/2018 05:38

Noooooookoooooo

Ahhhhh makes sense now

Zoflorabore · 15/12/2018 05:49

41 next month, didn't know this either Blush

My exdp was showing ds the other day that there is actually a "hidden" number 8 in a pack of cards 8 of diamonds, it took me bloody ages to see what he meant.
I am a bit scatty though.

ConfusedDotty · 15/12/2018 05:55

Ah, I was just about to say that I have seen a full circle rainbow when I was on an airplane, but someone beat me to it.

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 15/12/2018 06:15

I too have seen the end of a rainbow coming down into a field, driving to work many years ago. It had a golden aura and yes, it did feel magical!

EastMidsGPs · 15/12/2018 07:50

Was sent a text the other day from friend in Surrey showing a double rainbow he was walking towards. Beautiful.

On a totally different tack, I am over 60 and only realised the other day that Finisterre - from the Shipping Forecast - which always sounds slightly exotic to me, actually means end of land.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 15/12/2018 08:15

I love that, despite the science and fact, we can still see the beauty and mystery in rainbows.

Now, has anyone seen a unicorn....? Wink

This is really interesting. That last video is beautiful.

Eatmycheese · 15/12/2018 09:57

@maidenmother that video made me cry. I don’t know why, it just looked so beautiful, other worldly. And peaceful

SandunesAndRainclouds · 15/12/2018 10:56

Maiden that’s the best drone footage I’ve ever seen

The "toowhittoowoo" sound I thought owls made, is actually two owls. One says "toowhit" and the other "toowhoo"! Mind blown Shock

PerkingFaintly · 15/12/2018 11:44

I'm so glad it's not just me, Eatmycheese! Got a proper tear in the eye at that video.

Awesome!

Thank you so much for posting it, MaidenMotherCrone.

Shock

27 when I found out just now.

3luckystars · 15/12/2018 14:08

Thats amazing. AMAZING!!!!

The other thing I have noticed about rainbows is that the sky over them is a totally different colour to the sky under it.

I am in Ireland so have seen so many rainbows, i have even seen one, with a bigger one over it and a seperate straight line, just a big stripe on its own beside them.

I also have seen rainbows coming from the back of vehicles while driving behind them. Wooooo.

brizzledrizzle · 15/12/2018 14:14

We saw one in Iceland over a waterfall, amazing sight.
