I'm so silly. I've made my room toxic! Help.

My windows pop and creak REALLY loudly meaning I can't sleep.

I'm very ill and in my sleep deprived state I thought a desqueaker would work. Cue me spraying copious amounts of wd40 in the crevice.

It stinks. Have now read how toxic it is and don't know what to do. (Made no difference to sounds either.) Ffs. Last thing I need is to become sicker.

Any advice!

I just looked it up:
it destroys household rubber gloves,
irritates the skin,
burns quite well,
and should be applied wearing protective glasses

can you sleep somewhere else? and ask an expert how to get rid?

Bloody hell, don't light a candle 😮.

Meckity1 · 13/12/2018 21:34

Long term, some house plants help clean the air. NASA did a study

Otherwise I would open as many windows as possible and I'd put bowls of white vinegar out (really helps with smells) and cut onions.

Re the windows, if you can layer up and stay warm under blankets, get the windows open as much as possible. TB patients used to sleep outdoors and get frost on their blankets in the thirties and while I don't suggest going that far, try and get tucked under covers with the air moving. Hot water bottles help.

Hope you feel better soon

Try to open windows/doors in a combination that creates a through breeze to outside? If it isn't windy where you are, do you have a fan you could set up to blow towards the open window?

marvellousnightforamooncup · 13/12/2018 21:36

I thought it was made of fish oil.

WillChellam · 13/12/2018 21:37

Please don't light a candle....

Certainly nowhere near the copious amounts of vaporised highly flammable organic solvents.

Open a window, sleep on the couch tonight.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 13/12/2018 21:40

I m not sure it is that flammable, I used to spray it on my Halloween pumpkins to stop them rotting because it meant I could get them out DAYS before my neighbour. Never had one catch alight.

SimplySteve · 13/12/2018 21:43

Very flammable in enclosed spaces, please don't light a candle (although it'd likely stop your window creaking....).

MarcieBluebell · 13/12/2018 22:09

Thanks everyone. I'm sleeping in the lounge. Have windows open but it still stinks. God I think I've permanently fooked my room as apparently the chemicals just stay. Arrrr.

It's not that dangerous, they couldn't sell it in the shops if it was! It's basically a mixture of lubricating oil and white spirit. With the room ventilated I expect it'll be fine by tomorrow.

Mossyhill · 13/12/2018 23:42

I use veg oil or fry light in my creaky hinges etc Blush does the job wonderfully!

GooodMythicalMorning · 13/12/2018 23:46

Oh good idea mossyhill

Lucked · 13/12/2018 23:47

Can you sprinkle bicarbonate of soda to absorb what you can then put neat washing up liquid on it then wipes away with paper towels repeat with a little water with the washing up liquid.

HumourlessFeminist · 14/12/2018 08:51

It definitely has fish oil in it. It's not for vegetarians.
