My DH's job is through an agency. He's been there a few months, and in that time his pay has been right once. For ages he was being taxed as though he was working two jobs. Then he was on emergency tax code for weeks even after HMRC confirmed they had all the stuff in order at their end. We got a bit of what was owed back but not all. Then he just wasn't paid at all. Then he got £50 instead of the wage that should have been nearly £400.
Every week phone call after phone call just to get paid. I mean, no one goes to work for the hell of it do they? Its a pretty fundamental part of an employment agency business model to have a functioning payroll department, no?
So he sorted out his holidays for over the Christmas period and then asked to have the rest of his holiday hours paid rather than taking them. Agency agreed, said it would be in this weeks pay. Nope. Its not there, there is still no payslip, and due to the amount he did get paid I now think is tax code is wrong again but can't be sure until he gets the payslip, which could be as late as Monday! They also can't decide which day is payday so it can come anywhere from Thursday am to Friday pm. And the agency weeks are not compatible with the company's weeks, so he has one right week, one low week and one big week...throwing out his tax in a constant loop.
Thankfully he has a new job that he is starting in January, but honestly the stress of this is really building up. We are now anxious that his pay over Xmas will be wrong/not come and we have our rent and other bills to pay.
This has been the worst agency, but tbh, for the last year and a half he has worked for two other agencies and there were similar issues so its actually not even an isolated problem. The new job is direct employment so fingers crossed it is better, but how do these agencies expect people to live like this? He works so hard and its a kick in the teeth every Thursday or Friday when he essentially has to beg for his pay or try to do their job by working out their latest mistake.
Really just needed to vent.
