Biscuit tins?

We were a biscuit loving household when I was a kid. An average weekly biscuit haul would have included at least one packet of Clubs or Wagon Wheels (usually both) along with the more quotidian Nice biscuits and custard creams. We would put away the whole lot in a week - there was very little waste. Despite that, the biscuits were stored for freshness in a biscuit tin - my dad (it was always my dad, he was like the snack manager) would open the new packets of biscuits and tip them all into the tin together so that every jammie dodger tasted a little bit of garibaldi and vice versa. I didn't think it was yuck then - I'm not sure now.

In my house now we don't eat anywhere near as many biscuits, mostly due to my DH being a weird foreigner who would rather eat chocolate than biscuits and who doesn't have tea four times a day (how do they even hydrate, am I right?) so there's a lot of open packets sitting in the cupboard for weeks getting soft. I'm thinking it's time to get a biscuit tin. I anticipate trouble with DH, who will probably complain about the biscuit mixing issue. So I just wanted to get some opinions. Biscuit mixing: yuck or not?

I have mixed feelings on this.

On one hand I like the nostalgia, and if the biscuits are loose anyway I would feel less pressure to eat as many to get the packet closed again.

However, I was about 19 before I realised that not all biscuits taste of ginger nuts.

Biscuit mixing - yuck. Tea only 4 times a day?

Whyislarryhappy · 13/12/2018 15:46

We often buy a big box of broken biscuits - we aren't fussy here!

wendywoopywoo222 · 13/12/2018 15:47

We used to keep the open packets in a tin. But not mix them up.

Sadly they give me such bad indigestion now I have no need for a biscuit tin.

Snack manager Grin
Could you get a big tin and put the packets in without emptying them out, so they weren't allowed to mix too much?

Whatamuddleduck · 13/12/2018 16:21

If he’s not a biscuit eater he doesn’t get a vote!
I love a biscuit tin! Really should get one. I just eat half a pack at a time.
Totally not yuck.

Taffeta · 13/12/2018 16:25

My mother sellotapes her packets of biscuits once they are open to keep them fresh

Biscuit mixing is Not On

Malaco · 13/12/2018 16:35

I peg everything closed

gardengrass321 · 13/12/2018 17:23

Get 'em in the tin, it's where they belong! All the flavoury goodness in one biscuit. The only thing I draw a line at is ginger biscuits joining the party

ScreamingValenta · 13/12/2018 17:25

Buy a tin that's large enough to store them in their packets.

Lolly86 · 13/12/2018 17:27

No ginger biscuits mixed but otherwise all are welcome in our biscuit tin...

Theknacktoflying · 13/12/2018 21:24

M&S are selling big tins of biscuits. Once eaten it will be big enough to hold packets of biscuits ...

InvisibleToEveryone · 13/12/2018 21:28

We use dowe egberts coffee jars for our biscuits. A jar for each type, no mixing.

NoMoreMissusNiceGuy · 13/12/2018 21:39

Open packets in a tin. We always have - bourbon creams, custard creams, chocolate digestives and caramel wafers.

These are mainly for our 2 ds to help themselves to. If there's any exciting chocolate biscuits I hide them in another tin Grin

toomuchtooold · 14/12/2018 10:04

I need a biscuit barrel don't I?

Biscuit mixing, no different than a box of family favourites sitting in the cupboard. We have a tin but usually only 1 variety in there at a time. We've also found that using a tin makes them last longer as we only grab a few at a time rather than taking the whole packet to snaffle absentmindedly whilst watching the telly. Blush

ChocolateTearDrops · 14/12/2018 10:13

My grandparents had a biscuit barrel with a disc in the lid that you had to dry in the oven for a few hours every few months. Their biscuits were always crisp and how biscuits should be. I want one of those barrels!

MyPatronusIsAHyena · 14/12/2018 10:16

I learnt the hard way not to mix ginger nuts in with the rest! 😂 But other than that we aren't fussy!

doctorbarbie · 14/12/2018 10:20

No mixing. I have separate tins. The ones that you get free sometimes when you buy Digestives. But growing up we had a biscuit barrel with the packets inside it. Either of those is reasonable.

DH being a weird foreigner who would rather eat chocolate than biscuits

But wouldn't everyone rather eat chocolate than biscuits?

If you are the main biscuit eater, why don't you only buy one or two packets of what you like? Or do you have DC and everyone likes different biscuits?

Definitely buy a biscuit tin, in fact there are many full of biscuits in the shops at the moment as PP said, so you could spoil yourself with a super expensive tin, as you are buying it for the tin. Grin
