Iceland cook from frozen turkey - anyone had before?

Excuse the riveting subject matter Smile

I am cooking Christmas dinner for 10 adults and 4 kids and usually I order a turkey crown and a ham from the butchers. This usually costs about £85.

This year I just cannot justify spending that on some meat for one meal. Has anyone ever used Iceland's cook from frozen turkey crown? I think it's the cook from frozen but that I am unsure about...any experience?

TIA Xmas Smile

Iceland turkeys do v well in the league tables. I don't think I'd be happy about cooking from frozen. Does it give you the option of defrosting first?

As long as you check the internal temperature before eating it will be fine - just take longer to cook. I have cooked chicken from frozen with no issues.

My only concern with turkey would be it drying out , are there any reviews?

It looks like it comes in a roasting bag so should stay moist. I say give it a go. No faffing trying to defrost it first either.

A friend told me about this & I have to say the cook from frozen Iceland turkey is the BEST turkey we've ever had! We used to buy really expensive/local/top notch turkeys but 2 years ago we had 15 coming & just needed to cut costs so tried this. It's really good & stays moist. Highly recommend it. Easy to cook too. Don't even consider anything else.

Fantastic! Thanks so much...am definitely trying it. Plan B involves lots of alcohol so no one will notice if it all goes wrong.

@angeltattoo how did you get on with this turkey last year? Thinking of trying it for turkey sandwiches, but I'm a bit nervous!

angeltattoo · 08/12/2019 10:41

@ritzbiscuits I didn't get one in the end but trying for turkey sandwiches sounds great!

Good experiences from people above, I think I did check and it does cone in a cooking bag which generally keeps everything moist.

I’ve used a cook from frozen turkey crown from them a few years ago and it was brilliant

Clutterbugsmum · 08/12/2019 12:46

I have used them before and cooked the same way as other more expensive turkeys (with butter and bacon on top and and lemon in cavity) and there not a massive difference in taste from the expensive one.

FGS. There was a thread on here about roasting a chicken from frozen and the amount of posters having a fit because they would never "risk it" was ridiculous.

It is completely, 100% fine to roast from frozen. You can buy a frozen bird and roast it following the cooking I instructions. You can buy a fresh bird and stick it in the freezer, then roast it from frozen by adding 50% to the cooking time.

It's not dangerous. The bird doesn't dry out. It isn't undercooked. It's fine. Just use a thermometer like you normally would. Totally fine.

You can roast any joint from frozen.
