This is nicked off the internet. How do you do this type of stuff. Is it done on paper then scanned onto a computer? Is it done straight on the computer. What program do you need? Is it done on a drawing tablet? DD loves all this type of illustration / text on Instagram and wants to try a bit herself.

Should there be a picture attached?

Blondielongie · 12/12/2018 14:27

X posted.

Its done on the computer. You can tell because the letters are the same. Not sure of the font. Could be done with paint or photoshop or something else! Sorry I can't really help.

I do things like this on my iPad with an Apple pencil and an app called Procreate. Bit pricey to get just for your DD to have a go though!

Oh an iPad- that's on the Xmas list for DD. She's been saving up since forever and we're going to pay the difference. . So it's freehand? Do you have to pay for the app?

You need adobe illustrator to do that kind of stuff, think it's quite expensive to get a monthly subscription!

Xiaoxiong · 12/12/2018 14:55

if no iPad available she can do both with paper and coloured pencils or markers. It's more the clean block colours that she will be trying to emulate and I would say felt tips would give a good intense block of colour.

Everyone I know who is a professional artist or illustrator now uses tablets, but spent their childhood walking around with notebooks full of doodles and drawings in biro, felt tips, sharpies, crayon, pencils, watercolours, charcoal, whatever. Just get her drawing with anything that comes to hand - she can copy others for sure, and also let her own ideas and style flourish!

Dd has a big drawing tablet she got one Christmas. It's linked up to the pc.

Watching this thread with interest as my daughter is also interested in illustration.
I can see in the App Store that there's a Procreate pocket app that is for just $4.99. Any experience with that? Would that be enough as a start?

If she is really into it, as a career type thing, something like a wacom tablet and stylus would be a good choice. Think they can be pricey though!

ThereThereNow · 12/12/2018 22:54

She's still in primary school so can't say what she'll be doing careerwise but she absolutely loves drawing and writing. It might be a possible career path! I've just had a look at the wacom tablets. They range from ok to very expressive price wise! So confused.
