Any anaesthetists or nurses here?

I had a pre-op for a breast augmentation and my pulse rate was abnormally low (44). I've since had an ECG and the results showed a first degree heart block and arrythmia. The cosmetic surgery company are waiting for my GP to send over the responses to a medical questionnaire they sent over but in the meantime I'm feeling anxious wondering whether or not the surgery is going to go ahead on Monday.

Are they likely to proceed with the surgery given the findings of my ECG? I've been referred to the cardiology department but my appointment isn't until Feb. I just feel anxious not knowing what's happening.

How come your GP did an ECG? Would the clinic seriously have undertaken major elective surgery without doing their own investigations pre op?
Anyway, first degree heart block isn’t of much relevance and nor is a resting rate of 44 in many circumstances but you describe possible symptoms from it plus a comment about irregularity so they will definitely recommend you postpone.
Try not to worry. Have the cardiology review and go from there about when to reschedule. You need to go into theatre completely relaxed and feeling safe so get cardiology reassurance first.

The GP did an ECG because the nurse at my pre-op noted that my heart rate was unusually low - the cosmetic surgery clinic sent my GP letter requesting it. When they did my ECG the GP said there was an irregular beat and that my heart was beating slow. She's referred me to the cardiology team to rule out anything more sinister (her words).

There is no way you are having surgery on Monday, unless your surgeon is trying to land in a High Court somewhere to test his legalese.

Mind you, to test their competence DON'T postpone and see what they do, mindful of the fact you are not undergoing this surgery given the medical facts above. This will give you a measure of their competence.

I can't believe how late they're leaving it before deciding. If I postpone then I have to pay a fee, whereas if they postpone it I'm guessing it won't cost me anything. I just hate the not knowing. I think you're right though - if they go ahead with it then would does that say about the company??

1)Ask your GP to refer you to cardiology.

2)phone the clinic and tell them you have been referred.

The clinic will choose to postpone. 😉

Good luck with it - I hope you get sorted soon.

Al1ce I have been referred to cardiology but not until Feb. I'm hoping the GP put that on the questionnaire

Update - they've postponed it until after my cardiology appointment. Thank goodness!
