Quick Q: can you eat an unsteamed Christmas pudding?

It's a standard supermarket one (plastic dish). I don't have a microwave...and can't be shagged waiting 40 minutes to steam it in a saucepan/oven.

Will I die?

It'll be fine - the microwaving just heats it up as its already been cooked

SantyClaws · 11/12/2018 19:12

going by how home made ones are made it's already cooked - the second steaming is to heat it up

so no - you won't die Grin

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/12/2018 19:12

No. It's already been cooked. It will be quite hard and claggy though.

SantyClaws · 11/12/2018 19:12

It's a terrible shame to eat it cold though. And what about the custard?

ThunderInMyHeart · 11/12/2018 19:14

I knew MN would yield instantaneous answers! Thank you!

Hmmm...now I'm half tempted to bung a slice in a pan to get some heat into it.

DRIP FEED ALERT: It's a Heston hidden orange doo-dah, so, Christ knows what an unsettled one of those will taste.

Don’t eat it!

It’s got diabolical reviews across the board!

ThunderInMyHeart · 11/12/2018 19:15

*unsteamed!

My MIL always sliced her Xmas pudding and fried it in butter. Sounded terrible, and then I tried it - lush!

lifeinthesticks · 11/12/2018 19:19

Yes to frying it in butter, it's how we eat it up.

villainousbroodmare · 11/12/2018 19:20

Pan fry in butter... it is gorgeous.

jomaIone · 11/12/2018 19:20

Crumbled and fried leftover Christmas pudding is so good with ice cream

ThunderInMyHeart · 11/12/2018 19:33

It’s a Christmas miracle! I steamed it for a grand total of 5 minutes, and it was hot through.

However, now I’ve seen this butter method... I’m adding that idea to this week’s food list.
