Grand Mal seizure

Furiosa · 11/12/2018 17:22

Had one last night while I was asleep. I woke my partner up having it. When I woke up I was stupidly confused.

But I don't have epilepsy or other neurological conditions. I've be quite anxious and depressed lately but I'm in my late 30's and nothing like this has happened before.

I feel like crap today and just want to sleep. I've also cut/chewed my tongue really badly.

Know I need to see my gp but has else here had a one of these out of the blue? Did they happen again or a one off?

I don’t usually say this, but if I’d had a seizure I would have gone to a&e without any hesitation at all.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/12/2018 17:32

A grand mal out of nowhere is a serious concern. Please see a medical professional as quickly as poss. Preferably in A&E. Go to a hospital

You won't want to hear this - but the only person I know who suddenly had a significant fit out of nowhere had a brain tumour.

You need to go to the Dr urgently. I'd have gone to A&E too,

Fingers crossed it's nothing - wishing you well

Quartz2208 · 11/12/2018 17:36

Really you should have gone to a&E

DeadButDelicious · 11/12/2018 17:39

That is a hospital job. Get yourself to a&e.

Hawkmoth · 11/12/2018 17:50

Hospital love. Take it steady, don't drive.

Furiosa · 11/12/2018 18:00

Thank you for your replies. I know I need to get to the hospital. You've given me the push.

Don't worry Hawkmoth, I don't drive anyway. Was really shit at learning Smile

Lots of epilepsy clinics have a ‘first fit’ clinic. It’s surprising how many people do have a one off seizure and never have one again but it always needs checking out

Yup, second that. Good luck OP, I hope things are OK.

Golden0ldie · 11/12/2018 19:21

I hope you’re okay but have to ask why your DH didn’t call an ambulance when it happened? At least, I assume not as I would have expected them to take you in. Please get checked out.

Workreturner · 11/12/2018 19:23

How do you know you had one?

Workreturner · 11/12/2018 19:24

If you have never had one before and have had no issues whatsoever in this regard, I’m curious as to how you can be certain this is what you had

ApplePenPineapplePen · 11/12/2018 19:35

I had one when I was 18 and nothing since (I am now mid-forties). I had an EEG and scan which established a tendency towards epilepsy. No drugs required and after 6 months or so I was allowed my provisional license back. Do get it checked out and inform the DVLA if you drive.

Furiosa · 11/12/2018 20:00

I can't know for sure if was GMS. I just woke up not knowing anything. When came round a bit more i had blood in and round my mouth where id bitten my tongue. Im super embarrassed about this but i had wet myself too

DP said he woke to me stiff as a board, then i start convulsing. After i fell back asleep her rolled me onto the dry side of the bed and stayed up with me until morning.

ApplePenPineapplePen im glad you've lived another incident free life x

Alcohol withdrawal can cause seizures, you don't have to be an alcoholic but binge drinkers sometimes have fits when they stop. I'm not suggesting you are a drinker but a lot of people think they are not much of a drinker when, in fact, they are.

Other than that, do go to your GP please.

onalongsabbatical · 11/12/2018 20:06

I'm a bit puzzled as to why he didn't call an ambulance/medical advice/assistance in the night, OP.

Heartofglass21 · 11/12/2018 20:08

You need to be assessed by a neurologist.

AppleJuiceFlood · 11/12/2018 20:15

Why didn’t he phone an ambulance?
Definitely get yourself to hospital as it needs investigated.
Hope you’re ok Flowers

Workreturner · 11/12/2018 20:18

I’d be more worried my partner failed to call an ambulance to be honest

It sounds like you have referred to doctor google

Book a doc app

FingerLickingGod · 11/12/2018 20:53

What?! You had a seizure and your partner didn’t phone an ambulance? Confused

For goodness sake make sure you get some medical advice now.
