Taking kids with me to get contraception?

I have the doctors this morning as I'm having the injection do I bring the kids with me or drop them with my Mum? Is it a quick thing in and out?

It's up to you. How old are the children? Do you mind them watching you get an injection in your bum? Will they run around the room and cause havoc. They're the questions I'd ask.

I took my son with me to have a smear as he was about 1 and in the pushchair. I would try not to take him now as he's a toddler and would want be shouting to get out of the pram.

abstardust · 11/12/2018 07:16

I've taken my dc (last time they were 7 and 1) with me to have the injection, they know what it's for and always told to sit nicely on the chairs. The nurse normally pulls the curtain round to do the actual injections and it only takes seconds. If you think they will be sensible I don't see why not, I can't always find childcare just for a 5-10 min appointment.

Winegumaddict · 11/12/2018 07:38

It's fine I have to take mine because if I'm not at work and can therefore get to the dr I have the DC. No one batted an eyelid.

That all depends on the age of the children and how likely they are to sit still.

Ds has just turned two and dd is 3 months. They both very well behaved to be honest I will just bring the double buggy and strap them in then if it's quick.

OP posts:
Sirzy · 11/12/2018 07:56

Would you be allowed to take the buggy through?

Our Gp specifically asks for buggies not to be taken beyond the waiting room and a double wouldn’t fit in a lot of areas anyway

formerbabe · 11/12/2018 07:57

It's fine...I'd take them.

Namechanger55555 · 11/12/2018 07:59

I would take mine (similar age to yours). Like you said, strap them in the buggy, bribe with toys or snacks.

It's only a quick injection, not a long appointment where I would probably drop off with a babysitter

You'll need to phone and ask. I can't bring a buggy into the room. Always told to leave it in the waiting room

Dizzylin · 11/12/2018 08:17

I took DS who's 3, he is very well behaved so I knew it wouldn't be an issue. I left DD who's 7 with her granny last time but only because I didn't think she'd like to see it.

PotteringAlong · 11/12/2018 08:20

I’ve always taken mine. DS asked why he was not getting his pre school boosters in his bum though when I took him to his appointment Blush

worstpersoneverr · 11/12/2018 08:46

@PotteringAlong 🤣🤣🤣

I brought the pushchair when I brought dd for her jabs so should be ok as long as we're not upstairs.

Kismetjayn · 11/12/2018 08:55

I've always taken DD and actually think it's a good thing to know generally about contraceptives/women's health stuff and have it not be a big taboo.

AmericanHousewifefan · 11/12/2018 11:27

I second what Kisnet said. Also, it's not a bad idea letting them see you have a jab and not making a big deal about it. It'll make them less anxious about having them.

christmaschristmaschristmas · 11/12/2018 12:07

As long as your GP allows, I see no issue! I'd be tempted to give DC a game on your phone and a snack for a few minutes.

worstpersoneverr · 11/12/2018 12:23

They were both fine I let DS walk and he sat on the chair and dd was in the pushchair.
Love when things go smoothly Grin
