Dd who will be 7 next week has requested olives to try, a friend of hers had them in her packed lunch. I eat pretty much most things but I'm not keen on olives so it is not something I would normally buy, so what are the nicest olives and where to buy? I have seen Waitrose deli counter do a black and green mix with feta cheese for £1.99 per 100g is something like that best or just the pots of plain fresh pitted olives? Thank you fellow olive eaters.
P.s I don't care where I buy said olives only mentioned waitrose deli mix as it popped up at the top of my Google search.

Large ones from the fresh section, jarred ones are horrible.I think green ones taste nicer.

aldi do some in their specially selected range- halkidiki olives. Best I’ve tried

I developed a like for olives. Both with me and my brother we liked the basic black pitted ones best first as the greens can be quite bitter whereas black ones are sweeter and mellower. So you may want to give her those to try first, I only started to enjoy green ones at about 16ish, though now I love them.

I prefer tinned olives.

I like the Waitrose green queen ones (pitted). I can’t like black ones.

Yes, and they go through a pinkish red stage too. But they also get softer so cannot be pitted without turning to mush, hence the pitted ones being green olives coloured black.

Black olives with pips in are propper black olives.

As others have said go green and black and pitted to start with. Both of my children adore olives one loves black one green and they have since being tiny. We both hate them so I have to pick them up with a spoon and wash it immediately!

I would buy a small jar, the delicounter will be expensive.
although i am sure thereare plenty of places you can try before you buy form the deli counter

Green nocellara olives from the Waitrose deli counter. They are very mild and not overly salty - my absolute favourites.

Jarred ones never taste as nice as fresh.
