Ocado shoppers!

Never ordered from them before but I’ve got a 30% off code and I’m contemplating it for my Christmas shop. Are they pretty good with having stock/substitutions etc? Asda were hell last year, having, apparently, no carrots, potatoes, cheese or bacon in the whole shop, despite ordering 5 weeks in advance! I swore I wouldn’t online shop for Christmas again, but my mobility isn’t great and I’m just not sure I can face hitting the shops with the masses! Anything to avoid with them? Thanks in advance :)

I have never had anything substituted from Ocado, everything I order always arrives.

I would check if they actually have any available Christmas slots left in your area though, I’m pretty sure my nearest slot is around 19th December now.

Cauliflowersqueeze · 10/12/2018 06:12

I’ve had a few substitutions but my main irritation is that where I live if you get an evening delivery they tend to be about an hour late. Really annoying if you’re desperate to go to bed.

Workreturner · 10/12/2018 06:16

I chance for a Christmas slot I’m afraid

Workreturner · 10/12/2018 06:16

* no* chance

EmmaGrundyForPM · 10/12/2018 06:23

I'm hoping that they're reliable as I'm using them this Christmas for my shopping!

To get s Christmas slot at this stage you need to keep.checking the website. Slots do become available at late notice as peoples plans change.

JustBeingJobless · 10/12/2018 06:39

They’ve got a few slots for the 21st which is close enough for me :) Thanks all, I’m going for it now!

Fab

Check dates though as I remember Ocado used to have an exclusion of offers over fortnight Xmas and new year period

WutheringTights · 10/12/2018 07:30

Always been fine for me. The odd substitution but nothing ridiculous and you can always hand it back if you don't want it. I always arranged my Christmas slot for the evening of the 23rd so that I can get to a shop as soon as they open on Christmas eve if anything doesn't turn up. We got a free Waitrose pudding one year as we were the last delivery and it was a substitution that someone had handed back.

JoanofSarc · 10/12/2018 07:34

After using them for 12 years (and nearly 70k’s worth of spending) I swapped to Sainsbury’s (via a trial of Waitrose who were rubbish with loads of unusable subs that had to go back) recently after they ballsed up simple support for women.

Result seems to be that I’m spending FAAAAAAR less with Sainsbury’s because they actually do sensible sized packs of things (Ocado price match Tesco but they don’t always seem to have the same sizes) and they also don’t have so many lux-y products that I get tempted to “upgrade” to eg if I need hand soap for the downstairs loo, instead of buying something good and sensibly priced I get lured into spending a fortune on “gold, incense and myrrh by The Handpressed Soap Company” that the children then just dig their fingernails into and smear on the tiles.

And Ocado’s app lets you add stuff without rechecking out. Handy for milk but so so easy to overspend without realising.

Oh and Nectar points at Sainsbury’s. Lovely, lovely Nectar points.

I'm an Ocado fan and long time user.
Have noticed ridiculously high levels of things out of stock when ordering recently.- Christmas things and ordinary stuff. Last week I couldn't get basics like Actimel. And shopping for gift tags, I would say about 60% of choices were out of stock.
Substitutions/ missing items are generally very rare because their stock control is good- but so so so so so so many things out of stock at the moment.

sackrifice · 10/12/2018 07:51

We've ditched Ocado for their balls up too...we now use waitrose or sainsburys depending on which vouchers we have. Spending nearly half [a shop once a fortnight now] with a local organic veg box alternate weeks. Works well.

JustBeingJobless · 10/12/2018 08:31

It’s all ordered now. Only a couple of things showing out of stock and they weren’t important, so hopefully they don’t do what Asda do and suddenly run out of most of my Christmas dinner 3 hours before delivery!

When do they tend to take the money? I’ve got it sat there at the minute, but would prefer to move it to my seperate account until it’s needed so as it doesn’t get confusing!

They take the money after they have delivered. I pay by PayPal and it's usually debited the next day.
HTH

JustBeingJobless · 10/12/2018 08:39

Thank you Womble. I’ve opted to do PayPal so that’s good :)

They are amazing

MorningsEleven · 10/12/2018 11:48

Ocado is my favourite for grocery delivery. Followed by Sainsbury, Tesco then Waitrose. I've heard too many bad things about Asda to risk it.

CakeNinja · 10/12/2018 12:02

We have had Christmas deliveries from there for the last 5 of 6 years.
We get very few if any substitutions throughout the year on during regular weeks and I don’t remember having any crisis on Christmas delivery day.
I hate that they don’t have loyalty points and they don’t seem to charge the cheaper price if they do have to sub something for a more expensive alternative.
Other than that, they are always on time (I get the slot every week between 6-7am) and are generally hassle free.
