What do we think about the new 'Ultra Low Emission Zone' around London?

Article here

£12.50 to drive to Tesco's or pop to the shopping centre for your kids new school shoes.. I haven't heard if there's any additional gadget we can just attach to our cars to make them cleaner. Hmm I'm also not sure how many people have cars 15yrs & older these days. I'll have to think twice about renewing my car though. What do others think?

I can't say I've had a single thought about it, or - admittedly - even heard about, being one of the millions and millions of people who don't live or drive in or around London.

I support it in theory, but then I've never had a driving licence and get about on public transport. I have heard some local businesses with vehicle fleets are complaining because they have to buy more vehicles (makes no environmental sense whatsoever). A bloke rang LBC radio and told the Mayor he'll sell his vans to someone outside London to finance the new ones has to buy, so he's just moving the problem to another part of the country!

I drive into the zone at least once a week. In a 10 year old car that I wish to replace but probably could run for another 5 years.

It is silly to say park outside and walk because there is all restricted parking in the area just outside.

For families with cars just outside the emission limit who don't have spare cash as families often don't I think it's horribly draconian and that incwntives are not great enough. The existing cars have been made once and it is less environmentally friendly to make a brand new car than it isnto drive a 7 year old one for another 7 years.
