I fainted in the shower

I fainted whilst showering Saturday morning. DD heard me fall and came running. Apparently I landed face down. I have a bump on my forehead, a swollen jaw (cuts and bruises) and a swollen knee, also badly bruised. I rested all weekend but am still tired and frankly, a bit scared. For context, my dad is in hospice, near the end of his life, my DC are having trouble with school (DS is struggling in particular), XH is still being financially abusive re child support, and a myriad of other worries are stressing me very badly. This is the second time I've lost consciousness in the morning, just after getting up. The first time was while I was on the loo at about 5 am, two months ago. Is it stress? Insomnia? BP? Has anyone experienced morning fainting before?

A solitary loc isn't a huge worry but you've had two now. Off to the GP you go.

I do this semi regularly. I have slightly low BP and problems with my heart valves which isn’t a great combination but when I spoke to the doctor about it, he just said to make sure I drink a glass of water before doing anything in the morning, which seemed a bit blasé I thought.
It’s scary, I feel for you x

GP GP GP could be stress could be nothing get it checked

Wordthe · 09/12/2018 13:07

I have low blood pressure and get postural hypotension quite easily but I've never actually fainted, I would get checked out just in case, especially as it's the second time

NorthEndGal · 09/12/2018 13:07

Im sorry to hear about the fall, it hurts and is shocking in the suddenness. Both cause there own thing.
As to avoiding it again, both of those times are when you have lowest bp.
Hot water dilates, so lowers bp, try doing a small bit of movements like swing your arms and such before stepping in, massively helps prevent it. Also slightly cooler water
The other, you had been lying down, then sitting down, where blood pools in the lower legs. If you use a stool to elevate your feet, or move the feet and lower legs a bit while you are sitting, keeps the blood moving.
I have super low bp and have fell out of a shower more than once before I learnedBlush

Another one saying get the GP to check it out now you've had two events.

I've had similar, and GP ran some tests and concluded little more than low blood pressure whilst asleep then effectively being too active too quickly. Which is a novelty for me.
Probably nothing more than that for you, or the stress of your poor dad & financial matters with H. But check it out.

madmum5811 · 09/12/2018 13:22

Please go to GP, this is not normal.

Agree you need to see a GP.

But - are you sure you don't need to be seen today? Did you hit your head hard?

If you faint again today or worry you've taken quite a knock to the head, I would go to A&E.

I am menopausal and faint, not regularly, but 3 times in last couple
Of years. I always feel
It coming but can do nothing to stop it. I even fainted while sitting down. It always coincides with a particularly hot hot flush.
My DS has epilepsy so I know this is different

shiveringtimber · 12/12/2018 01:13

Thereal, my DD has epilepsy also and you're right, this is quite different. I saw my GP yesterday and he's requested that I get bloodwork done. I'm menopausal as of March 2017, (which actually isn't as bad as I thought, btwSmile) but yes, there are lots of factors that would cause this to happen. None of which do anything to reassure me since it's now happened twice.
