Isn't all icing pretty much solidified sugar though?! If you make royal icing with lemon juice and a bit of glycerine to make it soft, it's lovely imo. I can't stand fondant, I always pick it off.

Ok, cake has been marzipanned and the Tate and Lyle royal icing sugar powdery stuff purchased. How long do I need to leave the marzipan on before icing? Did it last night, can I ice tonight?

Leave it to harden for a couple of days if you can, as the oil from the marzipan can seep through if you do it too quickly.
