Pleurisy tips...before I remove my lungs with a spoon

Any tips to help? It was about 4 yrs ago when I last had it and I had v bad asthma exacerbation at the time and so that took over as being more important.

Had a sinus infection last week and throaty thing then it's now become more and more chesty. GP today said lungs are creaky at the bottom and have chest infection and pleurisy. V painful lungs.

Am used to painful ribs/intercostal muscles cos of asthma but this is a deeper different pain.

I have steroids, doxycycline, cocodamol and ibuprofen.

Any positions that are best? I'm sitting propped up in bed and sleep would help but pain is just worsening. Bluugh.

Oh and this song always makes me think of pleurisy...

Poor you, Pigeon Sad
My friend had pleurisy when she about 8 months pregnant and it was awful for her Shock
No tips I’m afraid Flowers
Hope you can get some relief

But thanks for the Billy Connolly magic! Not heard that before - brilliant!
Such a shame that he’s retired from standup Sad

Ouch, pleurisy is nasty! Have you tried inhaling steam? If you stick your head over a bowl of boiled water (I wouldn’t put anything in it) for 10 minutes 4 times a day it can help to shift mucous and open up your airways a bit. Can you elevate the head of the bed? That can help too.
Hope you feel better soon.

Rest and more rest

Sitting at a table with elbows on table to extend chest

You have my sympathies 💐

I found it was better sleeping on the side where the pleurisy was. I had a small cushion pressing onto it.

No other tips other than make sure you're on the correct antibiotics. Oh and don't go skiing at altitude when you're not really better (but that last one might just be for my benefit Blush)

Thanks all. I'm really sensitive to lots of antibiotics and allergic to others so can only have a few so doxy is my best bet.

Managed to sleep propped up with cushions from the sofa.
