Advice for visiting the Lake District

Please! Will probably be our last break together before babies.

DP and I looking to spend a few days away in the spring, would love to explore the Lake District but don’t know that area of the country at all.

Any advice on where to stay? Either towns/villages in the area or exact accommodation. Ideally self catering but open to a bed and breakfast or hotel. We’ll have a car so can travel a bit bit don’t want to be driving all the time.

Anywhere we should particularly try to visit whilst there? Will probably be a 3 or 4 day visit, we like National Trust properties, walks with beautiful scenery and good restaurants.

Would be grateful for Mumsnet wisdom!

Yes to the American B&B in Ambleside. Seizargh castle in Kendal is nice. If it's running, Steam Yacht Gondala on Coniston water is a lovely trip. Chester's by the river is lovely but packed, the cakes are amazing!

Blackwells arts and crafts house is stunning.

I just spotted that you have booked Overbeck. Wonderful! I'm sure you will love it and have a great time.

The Lake District is wonderful. Would recommend that you used your National Trust cards for free parking to walk round Aira Force, and visit Allan Bank, which is my favourite NT place ever, and I’ve been to alot.

Another one saying you have to go to Blackwell. It is stunningly beautiful and in a fabulous setting.

And another vote for a visit to the Blackwell house. It is gorgeous. Blackwell

Dinner at the Drunken Duck is a treat too. Great food and service
