Birthday Party games for 7yr-oldDD

DD will soon be turning 7 and we are having a party, at home. Have done this before, but at nursery age, and need tips on how to occupy several 7 year olds, mainly girls.

Weather permitting, we would play football/runabout in the garden, possibly a treasure hunt. Any treasure hunt tips would be appreciated.

We would then come in for cake.

I need some games/activities - DD doesnt want to do musical chairs or pass the parcel because it is for babies. I have some glow light bracelets for kiddy disco party.
Any entertainment ideas much appreciated.

Chocolate game - everyone sits in a circle with a big bar of chocolate on a tray in the middle (stick it in the freezer before if you’re feeling particularly mean!). Have some props - a woolly hat, scarf, gloves, silly glasses, and also a knife and fork. Everyone takes it in turn to roll a dice - if you roll a 6 you have to put on all the props and try and eat the chocolate with the knife and fork. They carry on until the next person has rolled a six, and so on.

Or somimilar but with a pass the parcel rather than chocolate - when you roll a six you have to put on hat, scarf and oven mitts and unwrap as many layers as you can before the next person rolls a six.

Nice quiet game for the end of the party, and takes a little skill: keeper of the keys. One child is the keeper, and sits in the middle of a circle, guarding the keys. Make sure the keeper is blindfolded and can't see, then you point at another child (the "thief"), who tries to sneak up and grab the keys without being heard. The keeper points in the direction of any sound they hear; the thief has to go back if they are pointed at. But if a thief succeeds in stealing the keys, they become the keeper.

Strawberry shoe lace race: competitors put one end of a strawberry shoelace between their lips and then put their hands behind their back. Somebody else shouts go and all competitors race to get the shoelace into their mouth without using their hands.

After Eight Race: similar to the shoelace race but start with an After Eight on forehead and it's the first player to get it in the mouth.

Blindfold shoe shuffle - Each person puts on a blindfold and takes off their shoes. They then throw them into a pile in the middle of the floor. The referee then jumbles them all up and then shouts GO! The first person to find their shoes by touch and smell alone and put them on is the winner.

Doughnut on a string: another eating with no hands race, this time with doughnuts hanging on a piece of string!

Post and shake: This fun game has the easiest set-up. All you need are post-it notes and a timer! First, have the players split up into groups of two or three. One child will stand still while their teammates cover them with as many post-its as they can. Once the timer goes off, count how many post-its are still on each player. The team that has the most post-it notes still sticking wins! Start another game by having each team try and shake off all their post-its. The team that shakes off all their post-its without using hands first wins.

Smarties race: Give each child two small bowls and a straw. Fill one of the bowls with small sweets like Skittles or Smarties and leave the other one empty. On the count of three, children must suck the sweets onto the end of their straw, and transfer them to the other bowl. You can either put a time limit on the game, whereby the children get to keep all the sweets they have transferred when the timer stops, or you could have a race to see who empties their bowl the fastest. If you are planning the race version, make sure everybody has the same amount of sweets in their bowl to begin with!

Balloon bulls eye: To start with, give every child a balloon to blow up, and ask them to hold the neck shut rather than tie it in a knot. Place a biscuit in the middle of the floor, and on the count of three, everyone releases their balloon. Whoever's balloon lands closest to the biscuit gets to eat it! If you didn't want to play this with biscuits, you could also use trading cards or stickers as the target.

Balloon shaving: Give everyone a balloon and marker pen. They now have two minutes to draw a face on their balloon, and then apply shaving cream over it. Then give everyone a plastic knife for their razor. On ‘Go’, players now shave their balloon – only without popping it. The first person to do that is the winner.

Jelly relay: divide players into two teams. Give each team a tablespoon and an empty bowl. At the other end of the room/garden, place a bowl full of jelly. Teams race back and forward to see who can get the most jelly in their bowl within 5 (or 10) minutes.

You could do t-shirt decorating. Just get cheap white t-shirts, some fabric pens and paint, fabric glue and a selection of ribbons, buttons and off cuts of material. They could then have the t shirt instead of a party bag.
Make pizzas for dinner.
Decorate digestive biscuits with icing, smarties, sprinkles etc..

Love the chocolate game - they get into an absolute frenzy.

Duck, Duck, Goose and the Ladder game are very popular with 7 yr olds, but need to be able to sit on the floor.

Treasure hunts take ages to set up and moments to complete.

Games with forfeits are good.

Wool maze - wool entangled around the house 2 or 3 teams and they have to follow the wool, rolling it up to a prize.

Don't eat Tommy' s smartie- plate with 6 Smarties. One child goes out and the others agree on one sweet to be 'Tommy's smartie' the other child comes back in and points at each sweet in turn. If they don't pick Tommy's smartie then they can have it. If they pick Tommy's smartie then everyone else shouts 'don't eat Tommy's smartie and it is the end of their turn. Tommy can be switched for someone relevant to the party theme.

Stuff a toy parties also go down well if fairly small numbers www.bemybear.com/ but quite expensive. No need for party bag.

Four corners. Give four areas of the room the numbers 1 to 4, or names appropriate to the party theme. Choose one child the be the caller: perhaps a child who's already won a prize, and blindfold him or her.

While the caller counts to 10, everyone else picks a corner to stand in. The caller calls out the name of a corner; everyone in that corner is out. The caller can take off their blindfold to see who they knocked out. You might have to say "no more than two people in a corner" when there are only a few children left.
