I've just been fired :(

Name changed because I feel a bit embarrassed about it.
Came in to work this morning and got a call from supervisor asking me to come to their office. They proceeded to tell me I wouldn't be offered the job again next year :( Technically not fired I suppose because I was on a two year contract, but was led to believe that this is almost always renewed. They said I hadn't done anything wrong at all in the role, but hadn't performed well at interview.
Please cheer me up!

Sorry this has happened to you, OP. Not letting your service reach 2 years was exactly what I thought when I read your post. Lots of employers do this.

I was once on a one-term teaching contract, and when I asked for the hours to be varied if I took another term's contract, they advertised the job without telling me! I had the satisfaction of knowing nobody had bothered to apply when the deputy head asked me if I was going to apply after the closing date. I said no because it actually was a very bad job, with the hours arranged really inconveniently. The same deputy head spent the last morning of term chasing me round the school trying to speak to me - no doubt about coming back the next term! But I thought they'd treated me so shabbily that, by that time, I had no interest in their smelly job!

i think that it is bonkers that a fixed 2 year contract is not 'what it says on the tin'

Any fixed term contract I've ever seen, and I've seen many, has had the right to terminate, subject to notice periods, built in for both sides. It might seem like a contradiction but I doubt many employees would want to be locked into a contract with no option to quit either.
Permanent workers don't have any more security than their defined notice period so why should temporary employees?

Fixed Term contracts are normally (as far as i have seen, in the tech/business industry) paid a lot better than perm roles as they dont have the job security

My Regrets - BiscuitsandJam. Take comfort from the fact you were not sacked, fired, dismissed, etc, You were "Let Go." There must be a reason. "Not interviewing well.." is Bollocks! Bastards!
Have you read Proust? If not, that could be a reason. Incidentally what did the job entail? If it was brain surgery: there is a shortage worldwide. In war zones - No interview required. Pleased you are being given references. Best of luck.
