Anyone been? I'd like to ask a few questions

We went a couple of years ago - I don't know how much help I'll be but happy to try!

Cost of basic items? Any handy hits when to go and any must buys?
Thanks in advance

To be honest, we found it very similar to almost every other Christmas market we'd been to - mainly mass produced stuff. They have lots of snow globes though I seem to remember. Some of those can get super pricey but we bought a little one that was quite reasonable. Other than that, we bought a few tree ornaments (mainly because we collect them wherever we go on holiday). I don't remember any of us being appalled by the prices in general but I think the exchange rate was a bit better when we went! Sorry, that's probably not much help...

I’ve been recently, the best one is at the palace, they also have ice skating there. They serve soup in giant bread rolls Grin

What are the prices of food etc like?

Yep, the Schonbrunn palace market is very atmospheric. Didn't use to feel too crowded, as there's tonnes of space (haven't been for a while).

Spittleberg is much closer to the centre and used to be know as the best to go to, but it's a victim of it's own success and gets packed.

Thanks to the rubbish exchange rate, food is not cheap. It's a capital city, so equivalent with London in the centre. The Naschmarkt just near Karlsplatz has loads of interesting food stalls and there will be Christmas stalls as well.

Many years ago, but it was beautiful. We spent a lot of time having coffee and cake in the gorgeous cafes. It was the coldest I’ve ever been in my life. The kind of cold that gets into your bones.
