Postie/ bin men - nothing
Don't have the other 2

hairypaws · 06/12/2018 22:02

Nothing 🤷‍♀️ Am I tight?

LBOCS2 · 06/12/2018 22:04

I give my cleaner 50% of her monthly 'pay', and I'd do the same for a dog walker.

My refuse collectors are useless and grumpy, so none for them, and our postie changes regularly, so... same.

Wittow · 06/12/2018 22:06

nowt. austerity right?

Elpheba · 06/12/2018 22:08

We moved 6 months ago and I loooooove my new postman- he’s so jolly! So I was planning to give him some beer.
We have cleaners once a fortnight, pay £42 for two to come together and they do it in 1 1/2hrs so I feel like they have fairly good pay- I don’t know what to do for them. It is a total luxury to have them especially while I’m on mat leave but I don’t know if I can afford a whole £42 extra. I was thinking £10 each and some chocolates but is that too stingy?

LBOCS2 · 06/12/2018 22:09

I think anything is appreciated Elphaba, they will have plenty of clients who don't give them anything - and nor should you feel obliged :)

OublietteBravo · 06/12/2018 22:12

I give my cleaner £40.
Nothing for the postie/bin men and I don’t have a dog.

Redglitter · 06/12/2018 22:12

Im going to give my cleaner an extra weeks pay.

Bin men, postman etc nothing

FingerLickingGod · 06/12/2018 22:15

Nothing to any of them.

SimplyPut · 06/12/2018 22:19

We give our cleaner a weeks money (£30) in a Christmas card.

Our postman gets a selection box Blush

Nothing for bin men or window cleaner.

RaininSummer · 06/12/2018 22:24

Nothing as they get a decent wage. No job I have ever had gets tips or Xmas boxes.

Brimstonenotfire · 06/12/2018 22:55

Thanks for replies
Really thought it was the norm to give xmas bonus or a Xmas box.
Remember reading the nanny threads once when it seemed to be expected to give a months pay and was shocked!

I would give a gift to a nanny or a cleaner but I think a month's wages is just what uber rich folk might do. The tradition of Christmas boxes is an old one, my mum still does it. I suppose it comes from the old days when the rich man was in his castle and the poor man at his gate were the menial labourers?

ButFirstTea · 06/12/2018 23:12

We give our dog walker a bottle of prosecco but that's it. Never even seen our postman or bin men (live in a flat in London) and we don't have a cleaner.

southnownorth · 06/12/2018 23:44

Don't have a dog walker or a cleaner. I would probably tip them if I had them as they are working for you. However much you can afford or a gift voucher for £20?

I don't tip the bin man or postie.

ChristmassyJumper · 06/12/2018 23:47

How much will you tip the checkout girl in Asda?

What about that bloke who sends out the council tax letters?

Oh and the guy who did your MOT, he was friendly.

Let’s not forget the street cleaners! Surely they deserve something.

Oh how could I forget the guy who works at NatWest and sorts out all those cheques?
