Crashed my car into a tree earlier today. How do I get over it?

So I was rushing to work this morning while it was pouting with rain and on a windy country road. I skidded on a bend in the road and lost traction, crashing into a tree head on and completely totaling the car.

I just don’t know what to do to get over it. I’m in a mix of denial, anger at myself and just generally upset as my car was still under a year old (well to me, it’s actually 25 years old but was still a fantastic car). I’m resting at home now but really can’t shake it off.

I also need to look at new cars immediately as I literally can’t get to work without one but it’s making me nauseous even thinking about it.

Any advice /thoughts?

Please no lectures on careful driving, the tree taught me plenty!

Your FIL might also have just been scared and in shock with his immediate reaction. Don't judge what was said in the heat of the moment - let things cool and see how he handles it going forward.

@5amWakeUo

I think it was definitely some of that. He is also just very non emotional and stoic in general so I didn’t expect much different.
