Mobile Phone contract - Can you over pay each month?

Im fuming DH has taken out a contract on a new mobile for 3 years for our DS. I dont want that hanging around us for 3 years. Can you over pay on your contract to help reduce down the payments?

Id think so, the contract will still run for 3 years but if you overpay your balance will be in credit.

If its one of those where you pay the phone and airtime separately, you could pay off the phone early and just keep the smaller airtime cost.

Why are you so annoyed? How old is DS? Can he contribute?

flowerpot1000000 · 06/12/2018 15:59

Yes think it will be in 2 parts Im annoyed as it is £60 per month, he's 14!!!!!!!!!

What??I'm a grown adult with a decent job and I wouldn't pay that for my phone Shock

SoupDragon · 06/12/2018 16:01

£60 a month is madness!

flowerpot1000000 · 06/12/2018 16:02

I agree...it's one of the new iphones? All hell will break loose when I get home tonight!!!!

£60 a month for 36 months!!??

Is your DH wrong in the head?

No idea if you can overpay but that's getting into LTB territory

Reallybadidea · 06/12/2018 16:07

Is there a cooling off period? I'd make him cancel it. That's ridiculous.

babysharkah · 06/12/2018 16:09

There's a 14 day cooling off period on any of the contracts I've had with o2, def check that out. That's insane for a 14 yo even if you can afford it IMO

Sitranced · 06/12/2018 16:10

3 years? The battery will die before the contract ends.

SoupDragon · 06/12/2018 16:15

My DSs have wrecked every iPhone they've had in well under 3 years. They were hand-me-down ones though, not on a 3 year contract!

SpoonBlender · 06/12/2018 16:25

That's mental - it's more than the "new iPhones forever" scheme from Apple! I hope you're in the 14 day cooloff because you badly need to cancel that.

PattiStanger · 06/12/2018 19:19

I thought there was only a cooling off period for things bought by distance selling, does it still apply of you actually go into the phone shop and sign up in person?

SpoonBlender · 06/12/2018 22:55

Dunno TBH. I always buy my phones outright and then add a cheap contract SIM.
