Help!! DD will only do a poo if she is in her bed!

DD has been potty trained for almost a year. She is just over 2 and a half. She was very quick to potty train and wanted to go to the toilet like her big sister so it was a very easy process.

The problem is, for as long as I can remember, she has always waited until she's in bed to do a poo. Since she was months old. It's like she holds it in until she's in bed for either her nap or night time sleep, and then does it. Like I said, this has been going on since long before I potty trained her. I still put nappies on her for naps as she is quite a sweaty child and drinks loads so don't think it would be fair on her to stop putting her nappies on at bedtime yet. The problem is, she literally has never done a poo on the toilet in the whole year she's been potty trained. She doesn't have accidents in her pants, she still only does them when she's in bed with a nappy on.

I've tried explaining to her. I've also tried bribery with chocolate but nothing is working. What should I do?

Thanks :)

The italic bit describes a child who is NOT fully potty trained.

Thanks for your analysis of my previous post. I agree that she is not fully potty trained. If she was I wouldn't be posting on here. She is 90% potty trained! She probably does 9 wees for every one poo so yeah, 90% of the way there.

She wears pants all day bar nap time & night time. In my book, that's a potty trained kid but obviously not 100% there with it.

If you disagree, fine! Let's agree to disagree!

I'll definitely look into that book that's been suggested. I think that could work a treat for her Smile

Thry don't get a certificate for being potty trained so no need to split hairs on this.

My dc3 is the same. He is 3. Dc1 did the same and we just took nappies off one day and hoped for the best. That worked.

Dc2 was a different kettle of fish. She was out of nappies at 18mo as well but didn't get dry at night til 4. She stopeed pooing in the nappies at maybe 3.

Dc3we will try in the summer if he hasn't sorted it

Yes, completely agree! Just annoying that some posters felt the need to make a point of telling me I'm wrong and she's not potty trained! Like you say, it's not like they get a certificate. I've known many potty trained kids who still have accidents here & there. I would still call them potty trained.

She's possibly nice and warm in bed?
Can you make your bathroom cosy and let her sit on the loo with a tablet?

DD would wait until I put her nappy on at bedtime to have a poo. What helped was sitting her on the potty in front of CBeebies at bedtime and leaving the room for a few minutes (while I was making her tea). It was like she was waiting for a minute’s privacy. Might be worth a try?

Mum of a historically constipated child here. Poo goes home to Pooland app helped, along with playing "poo faces" every morning and evening, then a sticker on a chart for playing poo faces for five minutes (show each other your best squeezing!!) and a star if a poo actually happens. We are getting there but you have to be very consistent
