Do you always buy a main present for your DCs?

Or are several smaller presents ok?

I normally go the main present route, but it isn't working out that way this year.

I always did a main ‘wow’ present when he was little. But he will be 15 this year. And it’s proven difficult to get him to tell me what he wants so he will be getting different ones and not a big one.

Yes

We usually do. DH is of the opinion that Christmas is a bigger event than birthdays so they should have a big, expensive present as well as various smaller things (I disagree), but this year there was nothing big and expensive that they wanted. Well, they wanted £80 LOL surprise doll things, but I couldn't bring myself to spend that much money on such crap.

None of mine (16, 11, 9) have a 'main' present this year. Just worked out that way, there wasn't a big thing any of them wanted so everyone has ended up with more smaller gifts.

Yes! Previous Years have been balance bike, scooter, tablet for ds. Dd was only 1m last xmas so she didnt really have a main present but her biggest present was a sofy bodied doll. This year we are at. Bit of a budget, so ds main is scout read with me and massive lego box set. Dd is my little pony set and baby alive

Frenchfancy · 06/12/2018 16:04

I am in the same boat as others. The Dds haven't asked for anything big so I have got smaller stuff instead. I think it might be an age thing. The youngest (12) hasn't asked for lego for the first time in forever, and the elder 2 already have laptops and phones and don't really want much.

We always do one main present from us. For ds1 it's a big Lego set, for dd it's a cd player (I know CDs are old school but she wants one) and for ds2 it's a hot wheels set.

I know some people do lots of little presents, lots of big presents, whatever. But it works for us. We have cut back on spends this year and have spent around £60 on each main gift.

Generally we did buy one big present each for the dses, @Frenchfancy - but I do remember at least one year where that didn’t work out, and we got them several smaller ones instead. We wanted to get a Wii for ds2 and ds3 to share, but because I left it too late, you couldn’t get one for love nor money, so I bought them smaller things - games for their hand held games (Nintendo/PSP), clothes etc.

I wrapped them all individually, and they loved having more things to u wrap - it worked just fine.

We do, though this year is a bit awkward as dd1+2 have "big" presents but dd3 has only asked for a tablet (she got a kindle fire last year's so doesn't need one) and a laptop (which a-shes too young for and, b- we've got a desktop which is practically hers as other 2 have laptops) so I've no idea what to get her and not sure how she'll feel about a few extra small gifts when her sisters are getting big ones.
