Constipation. That's all.

HELP. I've tried bloody everything. I never want to eat another prune for as long as I live. Fybogel and Senokot aren't touching it. I'm in agony. HELP!

Warm water, glasses of it. Don't sit on toilet and strain. X

MulticolourMophead · 05/12/2018 10:02

When you do go, make sure your back is straight up and have something under your feet to raise your legs up.

While you may not want to buy a the point the video makes is about raising your legs, and it does help a lot.

Also plenty of water, and a double dose of any supermarket constipation tablet. (My daft DS decided to do this last year, with rather spectacular results....)

Blondiecub0109 · 05/12/2018 10:04

Lactulose. Dried figs. Coffee/warm drinks stimulate the bowels. Literally, jiggling. Warm bath. Trying to breathe out and ‘release’ rather than strain. Raising your legs at least parallel to your hips (ie I can just about prop mine against the sink stem) - either straight out or squat - google squatty potty and you’ll see what I mean. This straightens the colon rather than angling it caused by normal position on the loo.

Go to your local pharmacist and speak to them, they may advise a suppository. That’ll clear it!

MulticolourMophead · 05/12/2018 10:09

I forgot about coffee.

I rarely drink it now, but since I began going through the menopause process I am finding coffee (especially a strongish drip coffee) does provoke an urge to go when previously it would never have had much effect.

Blondiecub0109 · 05/12/2018 10:09

^ what multicolouredmoped said. The legs out back straight has been life changing in coping with my IBS-C and now pregnancy constipation

JustLetMeStapleTheVicar · 05/12/2018 10:14

Thank you all. I have some suppositories in the cupboard for the DC, which I'm going to try, alongside the legs up thing. Y'know, just to rid myself of every final shred of dignity Grin

Eat a nice big dinner. Take some decent laxatives (Senna is okay, as is Fybogel but they are gentle - probably too gentle in your case). Try Dulcolax. Drink a pint of water and wait.

Agree with PP, when the urge comes, use a foot stool for raised feet and take something interesting to read and relax.

imonlyherefortheAIBU · 05/12/2018 10:32

I'm always constipated- I found black coffee really helped

Sexnotgender · 05/12/2018 10:38

Fresh orange juice with ‘bits’ I find that really good. Also apples and my homemade lentil soup. The 3 together are keeping me on track!

I’m 33 weeks pregnant and on iron tablets for anaemia which is an excellent combination!

halfwitpicker · 05/12/2018 10:42

Ooh, tough one.

Home-made lentil soup.
Strong coffee.
Homemade applesauce.

But it sounds like you're past that point tbh

halfwitpicker · 05/12/2018 10:43

I swear I didn't read sex not genders post before posting Shock

StUmbrageinSkelt · 05/12/2018 10:44

Movicol or osmolax at the highest doses plus dulcolax as an irritant. Stop adding fibre. Once you are at this point the fibre only adds to the problem.

Dowser · 05/12/2018 10:47

Get yourself a bottle of concentrace pure minerals . They are from the salt lake in Utah

Sounds like you might be low in magnesium

I take green juice as a medicine as that is rich in magnesium also

Epsom salts are magnesium sulphate

I can’t emphasise enough...drink plenty of water

1/2 oz per lb body weight . Water. Not tea, cola etc

Vitamin c is good to soften stool...ease back if you get diahorrea

KnittingSister · 05/12/2018 10:50

A good brisk walk, at least a mile. Half a pint of orange juice and half a pint of water - down in one.

Dowser · 05/12/2018 10:50

Flax seed oil and califig...fig juice

bobstersmum · 05/12/2018 10:59

Hot water bottle on tummy helps me.

gigi556 · 05/12/2018 11:02

Enema. You can probably order a home kit online.

PennyWishes1 · 05/12/2018 11:03

I had constipation for years with a medication I took and when it was very bad a big bowel of salted popcorn and a lot of water helped more than Movicol and Fybrogel.

Lucylugs · 05/12/2018 11:06

Milk of magnesia.

Raera · 05/12/2018 11:10

Sugar free sweets do it for me. Not one or two, a whole packet or two. Look for a warning on the packet saying that they might cause diarrhoea those are the ones you want

Blobby10 · 05/12/2018 12:53

justletmestaplethevicar I'm in the same boat! Got an horrendously busy week at work and don't want to be on the loo for ages so trying to do everything except take strong laxatives but I'm getting really uncomfortable. Sad. Drinking loads of water, warm and room temp, senokot morning and night, exercise, massage - I just feel 'full'! Its horrid!

ToastyFingers · 05/12/2018 13:01

A large dose of movicol to add water and soften the stool and a dose of sodium picosulfate to stimulate the 'urge' to go. Repeat twice daily until explosion commences.

PhilomenaSnowflakeButterfly · 05/12/2018 13:02

Hospital beans on toast.

MauisLeftNipple · 05/12/2018 13:06

I'm with you. Have drunk over 2 litres of water so far today, with lactulose and a few tinned prunes. Just cannot go. Have 2 kids at home that I've had to abandon in front of the telly various points today so I can pace around upstairs while slurping more water.
