...specifically one that does pointe? my dd's toes are black and blue and the skin is very dry due to spending a lot of time on pointe. does anyone know of a good cream that can help her with the dry/sore skin? thankyou x

Is she new to pointe? Are her shoes correctly fitted and is she using padding (ouch pouch, lame wool etc) Are her toenails neat and short?
Make sure her shoes are able to dry out fully between classes.
If all of the above are ok, a chat with her teacher to check technique and consider reducing frequency on pointe until her skin heals - broken skin and bruising doesn’t sound right to me at all. Pressure, callouses and tenderness are usual as well as occasional mild bruising but nothing more.
Surgical spirit is very good to toughen and thicken the skin but only after fully healed and everything checked.

Keep toenails short helps. Has she had a proper fitting for Pointe shoes as an incorrectly fitted pair can lead to problems. Does she wear any padding in her shoes eg lambswool or protect her toes with an Ouch Pouch ?I found E45 cream helped with foot dryness,

The ‘dryness’ could be a fungal infection - not uncommon in shoes that aren’t fully dried and aired (out of the bad in a normal warm room for 24 hours) Wash tights/socks after each use too.

Forgot to mention Surgical Spirit thanks Orchid. Always found that works well.

I would say avoid cream. In fact Dd and her friends actively avoid anything that will soften the feet’s skin. Some friends even use surgical spirit to toughen it up (she doesn’t)

Get her shoes checked. Some local fitters are not the best. We travel for Dds. And do check that she’s dryingvthe shoes out in between classes not letting them fester inside a bag as a PP said she might get a fungal infection.

Ouch pouches. Good fitting shoes. No pointe until she’s done a year strengthening strap exercise. Start with a few minutes pointe and build up,to longer. Tough, hard skin is more likely to be damage than soft well tended skin. Depending on agevand time on pointe consider professional podiatry footcare.

My dd is studying Performing Arts in college and has been en pointe for 6 years . Her feet are the only part of her body that haven’t been pampered and groomed . All ballet dancers have corns and callouses on their feet . They don’t use moisturizer as that would soften them . Does she have an ouch pouch and is she taping her toes before putting her pointe shoes on . You can get lambs wool that she can place as padding on sore pressure points . Also , it can be trial and error to find the correct brand of shoe . She wore various styles of Griskho for years until discovering Russian Pointe . There are a few other brands but the didn’t suit her feet at all .
Did her teacher show her how to break them in ?

hi all, everything has been checked out and all is fine. the bruising (she now tells me) is from playing football with her mates, not from pointe. she does have short toenails and uses ouch pouches, and we ensure to dry her shoes out after every use. however, i may have to look at a new pair of shoes as that may be part of the problem. thankyou for all the help x (she has only been dancing on pointe for few months now, but has done strengthening classes for 9 months prior)
