Future planning- jobs that can be done from anywhere

I’m 32. In 10 years DC will both be adults and (hopefully) at university or off travelling/being independent. I’m single so no partner to tie me to anywhere. I’ve lived in the same town all my life more or less, all my extended family are here apart from a few who were smart and spread their wings. I rent and no likelihood of ever being able to buy. I work full time for min wage. No savings. When the time comes I would like to be in a position to travel and live in different countries and cities but will obviously need an income to support myself. If possible would like to start sooner rather than later. I’m open to any and all suggestions. What jobs could I do from anywhere either self employed or employed? I have no degree and right now I can’t commit to one as I just can’t afford either the time or the money to it but won’t rule it out for a few years time. Throw everything at me. I’m making a list Grin

Something in healthcare? Or social work?

Those types of jobs are often on shortage skills lists and so you may be able to get a working visa.

The problem is that these lists change all the time, so a skills shortage now may not be a shortage in years to come.

Well, what are you good at?

donajimena · 04/12/2018 17:45

Environmental Health Officer?.

You might be able to afford a degree. I work part time and study. Its equivalent to a low full time wage.

VictoryOrValhalla · 04/12/2018 17:47

No idea what I’m good at tbh. I’m currently a cleaner. Previous jobs have been retail (didn’t enjoy that) and retail banking, again customer facing.

Well funnily enough victory I'm a cleaner too. Have you a local college you could talk to?

VictoryOrValhalla · 04/12/2018 21:51

I do but I’m not really sure what path I need to be taking so what would I ask them? I can see their courses on the website. Is there something I should be specifically looking at?

Personal trainer?

ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow · 04/12/2018 22:23

Financial adviser. There was an article on the bbc website recently about a UK man who does this while travelling in the USA. He provides advice mostly by phone/Skype and his clients (in the UK) have no idea where he is, apparently.

If I can find it, I'll link.

ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow · 04/12/2018 22:29

[https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-46193769 link to story] about an independent financial adviser from England who has spent the last 10 years travelling around the US, for up to six months at a time, in a converted motor home.

Gah. Link fail.

VictoryOrValhalla · 04/12/2018 22:32

Oh I don’t think I could be a personal trainer! My body is a stranger to exercise! Blush

Financial adviser could be a goer! I did a uni access course and got onto a related course in university (don’t want to out myself with specifics) but the timing was awful for DCs and I couldn’t continue it. My access certificate is still valid.
