Do dogs get bored on a walk?

Apologies for the random musing but as I walk my dog on his evening constitutional along the same route we always come I wondered if at any stage he thinks ‘FFS not this way AGAIN!’

So do dogs get bored? He seems happy enough, sniffing the same tree he did last night and the one before that but I just wondered if subliminally he’s trying to get a message through to me.

We do go other places on occasion but this is definitely my favoured route as it’s virtually straight out the door into countryside but now I’m wondering if I am depriving my dog!

Ours dislikes the same route or being on a lead. He likes running through the woods with tree trunks looking for somewhere to bury them. He likes chasing deer, pheasant and squirrels. He likes chasing balls on the heath. He likes running and running across the Downs. He loves running long distances with my husband. He loves splashing in the sea, swimming and burying things in sand. He loves sniffing through the woods.
No, he doesn’t really get bored.

I think they definitely have preferences, we have a certain walk on mornings that I work as I know exactly how long it will take, but he always tries to pull me off course when we come to the crossing as he wants to head towards the fields. If we leave the house and go straight to the street opposite our house he literally wets himself with excitement as it means we're going to the rec and there will be dogs to play with.

My dog does have his favourite walks and others where he plods a bit more. He always gets a bit more excited on a brand new walk though.

I think my dog is too stupid to get bored.

Mine does show varying levels of excitement depending on what I saw to him. If I say, “Do you want to go walkies?” he’ll agree that yes, he does want to go, but is not overly enthusiastic. If I say, “Do you want to go on a trip to see the Millie's?” (twice weekly group dog walk) he’ll start bouncing. If I say, “Do you want to go on a trip to Whoof Club?” (Once a week doggy daycare) he’ll be beside himself with excitement and I can barely get his harness on him. Grin

It's good to mix up the walks so they don't get too fixated/ won't go anywhere but THE WALK.

I have a new puppy and want him to get used to going shopping and being accustomed to sitting at outside table of cafes. I'll actually have to go to cafes myself to do this, as it's something I do once I a blue moon but handy to have the dog used to this as I live in Melbourne, home of outdoor cafes, and tons of dogs.

Right now any walk is good and he goes batshit at the sight of the leash. He loves the beach and sea. He goes to an off-leash dog park twice daily so meets lots of other dogs. The he is less insane, he'll go fully off-leash and be able to run.

I should add that he doesn't do rain. He will plait his legs and play dead if it's wet out.
