Mouse in my studio apartment AirBnB. It’s 5am here. Will mouse attack me in the night

Saw a mouse in my AirBnB about half an hour ago. It is a small studio apartment (so no separate bedroom) and I’m here for the week. It emerged from between the cushions of the sofa then was as surprised to see me as I it, and darted back in. A little while later it emerged from round the back of the sofa, again I startled and it darted back. I never knew why people got so jumpy around mice till now!

I’m just wondering... as it’s a studio flat and I can’t lock myself away to go to sleep, well, am I basically safe from a mouse attack in the night?! I mean, do they crawl onto your face or anything?!! I have not had to deal with mice before so don’t know! I haven’t heard it moving since then. I thought it might have a hole, but maybe it lives in the sofa!

I am in North America and it looked just like your normal mouse, except its ears were a little larger and rounder than I’d have expected. (This makes it sound like Mickey!!) It was grey, and maybe gerbil-sized, but definitely mouse-shaped. Its body and head together were maybe 6 inches long, plus it had a longish tail.

It sounds like a gerbil or a baby chinchilla or something!

No mouse is anywhere near 6 inches long.

Are there mouse droppings anywhere?

skiouch · 03/12/2018 14:53

Not any droppings that I can see but I haven’t dared peek behind the sofa.

Sun’ll be up shortly so will try to get to sleep now!

We had a mouse in an airbnb in Spain in the summer, which was funny because the guy had a shit load of cats, but they spent all their time fighting each other rather than hunting mice. Anyway, it shinned downed the curtains and hid behind the stereo, so I locked all the food away in the fridge and went to sleep. We were not attacked by a gang of flick knifed up mice, but then again I was very tired and could have slept through most stuff. I have actually had a mouse run over my lap once too when sitting on the floor with only candle light. They aren't always scared......

They do run over beds but if you sleep soundly, you won't notice.
Put out a small saucer of water, a bit of dry cereal and some chocolate buttons (they love them). You'll wake tomorrow morning to find said mouse snoozing contentedly next to the food bowls.

Aw bless.

Far too big to be a mouse. Maybe an escaped pet from next door. What do American kids keep as small furry pets?

BirthdayKake · 03/12/2018 19:21

Definitely won't hurt you. They're quite sweet little things.

I would describe myself as a light sleeper, but about three weeks ago I lifted up my pillow and found a load of mouse shit underneath which definitely hadn't been there the day before, so they'd obviously been on the bed/us in the night. Little buggers.

It's typing on mousenet.com asking how to make a human go to sleep so it can have its sofa back Bear

Could be a chipmunk?

Otherwise, at six inches, it could be a rat. Or, as we country types say, "You don't have a mouse, you have mice": yes, OP, they hunt in packs Grin

Oh- and be warned: they go for the throat...

Chipmunk?
