Tips for coping with the pain involved when bleaching your teeth

I got the personal moulds from my dentist (£200). She advised I use them whilst I sleep at home and I’ve got an appointment to see her again in four weeks. I’ve used them twice this week because my teeth are already sensitive (I use sensodyne daily which usually does the trick) and I’m getting a lot of sensitivity and pain. My gums bled the first night but they have been okay the second time. Anyone done this before and have tips on how to cope with the pain and discomfort? They are looking whiter already. Did you reduce the length of time you wore them? Did you put toothpaste instead of the gel on every second night to help with the sensitivity?

I've also only used it two or three times but brushing with sensodine before and taking Nurofen the following day seemed to do the trick.

I also have some very sensitive chipped teeth at the back so made sure I didn't use the gel on those teeth. The pain only seems to last a day for me thankfully.

Thanks. The pain only lasts a day but it’s pretty bad and I felt like my teeth had a pulse at one stage. Lol. Im thinking of putting sensodyne in the moulds for an hour after I take off the gel to ‘cool things down’ a bit. Once I’ve finished this stuff I’m never doing this again. X

Some people recommend doing alternate nights with bleach and sensodyne in the trays. My sensitivity has never been that bad to warrant this.

Op I'm a dentist and I always recommend putting sensodyne in the trays it works really well.

I had this and the stabbing pains would get so bad during the following day that I stopped using it. Really annoying. Sensodyne in the trays did help a bit. I got some super-fluoride toothpaste prescribed too but that didn't stop it hurting.

I'm in the middle of a daily whitening with 6% bleach. I do an hour a day. I do four or so days then have a night off. It's very doable that way. Could you change the bleach strength?

I'm whitening my teeth at the moment using trays and bleach from the dentist. First two weeks I used the top tray only, every night.. no problem at all. Week three I used both trays and the first night was agony with stabbing pains from two bottom teeth. I put Colgate sensitive toothpaste in the trays for the next evening then bleach again over night. No sensitivity since! However I do feel a bit as if I have reflux right at the back of my throat and I don't think my teeth are any whiter! I'm getting a little fed up!!

Sensodyne in the trays for 30mins before the bleach.... everyother night.
Then more sensodyne in the trays in the morning.

Makes it so much more comfortable

Can I ask what regime you are all using then? You all seem to be using your trays a lot more than I am?

Fucking hell, never realised teeth bleaching would hurt!
