Baby reflux. Oh god what do I do?!

Given up all dairy.

Baby on baby gaviscon (only for 2 days though).

Crib is propped up at one side.

Sit him up for 45 mins after feeds abc burp him really well.

Baby still getting reflux. He just swallows it. He's only less than 6 weeks old. He screams when it happens and pulls his legs up. We had real tears for the first time today. I don't know if I'm just hormonal but it really upsets me. I just want him to be okay and not in pain.

I even got silently annoyed with DH because it doesn't bother him and he thinks I'm 'too soft' (ugh).

Any tips? Other than the above, lots of cuddles and just keeping him close...

Ranitidine! My 19 week old DD has CMPA and reflux, but going dairy free didn't help the reflux much. Gaviscon made her scream, so the GP prescribed ranitidine, and it has made such a difference! She still upchucks, but it doesn't bother her, and the reflux screaming stopped within a few days of taking ranitidine.

Talk to your health visitor or GP, consider ranitidine, it worked wonders for my daughter. I used boots version of gripe water alongside it, relief within a few minutes of giving. Gaviscon made her worse as she got constipated.

Also breastfed as often as she wanted. Propped up one end of her cot and her pram mattress. She liked her bouncy seat and sleeping on our chests best though.

I wish I could sleep with DS on my chest but I'm far too scared to do so. It would make life 100% easier though!

As well as omeprazole (better than gaviscon), Gripe water was a god send for my DS. It didn't stop him being sick, but stopped the burning pain.
He used to scream so much when we winded him, would arch his back and push himself up to get away, thought we were doing everything wrong. Once we gave him gripe water it was an instant change. No more screaming, and winding wasn't a fight anymore. And it made night times as bit easier as well as it helped reduce wind trapped in his belly so he wouldn't wake as often squirming in pain.
We also sat him up a lot in his bouncy chair.

Another vote for ranitidine, and lots of gentle bouncing x

Speak to gp again also burp after each oz xx

willothewisp17 · 02/12/2018 23:38

yes yes yes to ranitidine! gaviscon made my daughter horrendously constipated so we switched to carobel instead to thicken her milk.

KnickedIt · 02/12/2018 23:40

I'm going to investigate this ranitidine! Thank you all.

@Kko1986 I would have no idea when my baby had had an oz though :(

I had to guess with my baby but try burping frequently through the feed

Cutesbabasmummy · 03/12/2018 12:11

Second Ranitadine (prescription only) and if you are bottle feeding then use a reflux formula or add caribel.

Bananabus · 03/12/2018 12:13

My refluxy boy slept on my chest for 10 weeks 😬 As he is gaining weight well, my gp won’t prescribe ranitidine. I’m having some success with very frequent breastfeeding which seems to stop his pain

BuntyCollocks · 03/12/2018 13:24

Ranitidine and a baby hammock for sleeping.
