Why you chose it and would you recommend it? Smile

The corset by Laura Purcell. Not for the faint hearted though descriptions are so powerful- I would consider myself a bit squeamish normally, but I just can't put it down!

I have the heart's invisible furies on my kindle next after a recommendation on here and sounds like I need to buy theAgatha Christie book next Smile

I'm reading the end of the world running club by Adrian j walker, it's pretty good and much better than the authors other book 'the last dog on earth'.

Next I'm going to ready Eleanor oliphant is completely fine. Has anyone read that? I've seen it everywhere for months so decided to give it a go.

LurkYouLongtime · 05/12/2018 11:12

I didn't think Seven Deaths was at all slow and I thought it was better than the Agatha Christie I've read Blush

I loved Eleanor Oliphant but it's a bit marmite.

Thank you @MissDorothyParker! You’re a star! Grin

Just finished The Missing Girl by Jenny Quintana, very good & would recommend, but not sure if a little over hyped.

Currently reading the very slightly trashy Twelve Days of Christmas by Trisha Ashley, which I have read several times. It is so easy reading and fun, it means I can switch my brain off. It is my Christmas-sy go to book.

Funnily enough I have Eleanor Oliphant downloaded but haven't been in the mood for it yet. Planning on reading the new Graham Norton book 'A Keeper' next, I really enjoyed his last one.

Have a plan to save Michelle Obama for relax time over Christmas, I enjoyed the bits they serialised on the radio last week

PlayingForKittens · 05/12/2018 11:54

Just finished Red Clocks. Now reading Cousins by Sally Vickers which is enjoyable but not my favourite of hers.

florentina1 · 05/12/2018 14:21

Magpie Murders. It is my go-to read when I am feeling low

brizzledrizzle · 05/12/2018 14:26

I have just finished www.goodreads.com/book/show/25302885-the-throwaway-children - I said in a PP that it wasn't my usual sort of book but I couldn't put it down. I think it'd appeal to people who like Lesley Pearce and the Call the Midwife books.

I'm now reading www.goodreads.com/book/show/21805267-the-forgotten-soldier - The Forgotten Soldier by Charlie Connelly, it's about his great uncle Edward who was killed right at the end of WW1.

AnyFucker · 05/12/2018 15:48

I gave up on The Northern Clemency. Too many characters...too many detailed conversations going on and on.

Am now reading Standard Deviation and enjoying it

Drookit · 05/12/2018 17:01

PonderLand I enjoyed Eleanor Oliphant but found it quite lightweight. It's a positive story though.

kentgal · 05/12/2018 21:51

Thanks everyone for some great book ideas! My Amazon wish list is looking substantially longer Grin

Drookit - yes Eleanor Oliphant is light reading - I don't know why that's necessarily a bad thing though.
I was actually disappointed in how the story developed. I was hoping it would be about the sadness of life for an ordinary person, but she turned out not be ordinary at all.

brizzledrizzle · 06/12/2018 04:32

I'd rather be reading by Anne Bogel (who is not me!) is reduced to £1.73 on the kindle at the moment.

(insomnia does have some advantages!)

TragicRabbit · 06/12/2018 16:04

I thought Eleanor Oliphant was going to be more complex. It started so but turned a bit ‘chick lit’. That might seem more off-hand than I intend. I think I enjoyed the miserable first 2/3 more than the happier end - says more about me probably!

Gwenhwyfar · 06/12/2018 21:03

Tragic - I think you're right. Still a good book though. Chick lit I'd read and throw away, but I've kept Eleanor Oliphant.
