Anyone else keep forgetting the word they want to say?

Since giving birth, I have frequently lost the ability to find the word I want. At first I put it down to tiredness. / hormones etc. but my son has slept through the night (7-6.30) since he was 6 months old, and he's now nearly a year old.

I end up saying things like
"Hand me, the thing. The thing! THE THING!"
"The person that drives in the sky". (Pilot)
"The thing with the yogurt. Garlic. Cucumber. The Greek thing." (Tzatziki)

It's so frustrating! The word is there, I can almost see / hear / feel it. But I just can't get it out. This happens almost daily.

Is this just being a mum? Am I doomed to feel stupid forever?! Anyone else experience this?

All the time.
Brown stuff on the ground? (Soil)
Blue shop with loads of stuff? (Boots)

My mind is never still, I don't sleep well and often lose words.

I go through spates of this - I couldn't recall the word grinder the other day, as in pepper grinder. It's so frustrating.

You have so much more to hold in your head at this stage in your life - and yes, tiredness and hormones will still be playing a part. You may be sleeping OK, but the relentlessness of life with a one year old and all the rest of it could well impact things like recall of words. So try not to worry. But if you're at the stage where it's causing you anxiety and distress, run it past your HV or GP next time you see them.

I almost asked my 6 year old if she wanted to wear the pineapple the other day. I meant "the panda onesie".

My youngest is 11Confused
I'm getting just as bad with names recently.

Thank goodness! I was beginning to feel like I was going mad! (And feeling vaguely sorry for my husband, who is expected to know what "the thing" is.)

My mum often used to rattle off a load of unrelated names before getting to mine and my sister's when she was trying to call us both. We used to tease her for it, but I think I now know why it happened! 🙈

Just another bonus of membership of the mum club...

I once said ‘the necklace for your waist’, when trying to say belt.

And I’m not a mum!

It's called 'tip of the tongue syndrome' usually happens due to tiredness, brain overload, brain fog, anxiety or stress.
Very very very occasionally it can be something more sinister such as Parkinsons, Dementia, MS, Brain Tumour or Mental Illnesses.
Though it most cases it's due to tiredness, brain overload, stress etc otherwise known as a bonus of the Mum Club as a pp mentioned Smile
