Anyone been or going this year? Any top tips?
We are going in a couple of weeks and haven't told our children yet. Wondering what inventive ways people came up with.
Also if anything we need to know about the day. Should we get the book and jingles preordered? Should I buy 3 pricey toy penguins!!

It's incredible. Completely worth it.
I left the invite letter on the fireplace rug. You need to know this...wear waterproof boots and take warm clothes. We didn't buy elf jingles but we did secretly buy the reindeer that she 'made' in one of the sessions and the staff hid it well in the bag. It really is magical.

Thank you so much. Maybe I will just buy one santa helper made penguin for them to share!

I went to Lapland as a child and have one recommendation - LAYERS.

Oh my god is it cold there. We did a snowmobile over a frozen lake and even though we were given snow coats and warm outer clothes, I think I can still feel that cold!

Your kids will love it though, hope you all have fun!

We've just come back from lapland.

Absolutely stunningly beautiful country. Nice food. Very friendly locals. Made some truly magical memories.

But holy shitballs is it cold. And they are having a warm snap at the moment so it's 'only' - 17°c.

Agree with pp, layers layers and more layers. If you are going with a tour operator and they give you snow suits /boots, wear them. They are the dogs bollocks.

Take moisturiser and don't make your shower too hot to avoid frostnip on exposed skin. I had a too hot shower and have a touch of it on my cheeks now. Feels and looks a lot like sunburn.

Also try the reindeer, it's really very tasty. And bring plenty of euros. It's not a cheap country. €6 for a packet of coffee, €3 for a packet of biscuits, €68 for dinner for me dp and ds with no alcohol

@PutDownThatLaptop how much are the toys they make? And also food? Just trying to work out money when we are there! If our tour starts at 12, should we get there at 12?

BendydickCuminsnatch · 06/12/2018 13:41

Steph and Billy She’s talking about ‘LaplandUK’ I believe, not actual Lapland!

Take spare clothes or waterproof trousers in case you fall over ice skating. If the weather is mild the rink can be quite wet and you don’t want to meet Santa whilst wearing soggy trousers!

Aim to get there a bit before your tour - we got caught in traffic last year and ended up getting there 10 minutes before - by the time we had parked / checked in we missed may be 5mins (they did rush us in).

PutDownThatLaptop · 06/12/2018 14:35

@Dreamingofkfc I am not sure as it has been 3 years now, I am gathering that the toy reindeer that we made is now a toy penguin. I think that was £15 but the quality of that and the toy they gave from Santa was beautiful. I think food might best be described as about on a par with theme park prices. Get there in good time to park up and walk through the initial parking area. Think about it as a theatre ticket and think how early you would arrive for that.

memememe · 06/12/2018 14:42

we went this week. aim to get there 30 misn before to give you time to park, layer up/wellies on etc and walk to the entrance. you can get drinks and snacks there while you check in and wait.
i didnt pre purchase the penguin but wish i had as both my boys loved it so much, so i bought one at the end secretly. yo can also buy them in the shop not so secretly.

the ground is a little muddy in places so wellies/walking boots are a good idea as are waterproof trousers for the ice skating. the ice rink wasnt very wet this year which was nice. they also have 2 bladed skates for the little ones.

we didnt eat anything there but did take snacks with us. the shops take jingles as well as card payments. no cash.

hope that helps x
