For the first time ever, I have to work Christmas Day. 7am to 3pm.

If you are working Christmas Day, what hours are you working? Do you get any extra pay? I'm getting an extra 50p an hour Hmm

Nicknacky · 02/12/2018 00:40

I’m nightshift until 7am (earliest) into Christmas Day. Just normal pay

ThriftyMcThrifty · 02/12/2018 00:41

I’m not but we offer two days off in lieu, which can be taken any time next year.

sazzle27 · 02/12/2018 00:43

Luckily not this year, but when i do, 12+ hour shifts, normal rate of pay...

tictac86 · 02/12/2018 00:43

I used to work it. Started off on triple pay but soon went to double then a day in leu but it was worth it for the tips

Scrumptiousbears · 02/12/2018 00:45

Next year my partner has to work Christmas Day and Boxing Day 0700-1900. Takes about 1 hour drive each way. Our DD will be 3 and 5. He will get extra but that's the whole of Christmas gone.

Namechange8471 · 02/12/2018 00:48

Yes 5-10. I work in care

Namechange8471 · 02/12/2018 00:48

We also get extra 50p an hour.

FTFF · 02/12/2018 00:53

I'm working 1200-0000 I get a day off in lieu back

puddled2 · 02/12/2018 00:55

Yes Christmas Eve & Christmas day

Redglitter · 02/12/2018 00:59

We get double time for all Public Holidays

Magair · 02/12/2018 01:09

Working Christmas night, 1915-0745. My children are young so I felt this shift meant I got the best moments with them. It's double time which is great and it's delivering babies which is also great. Should be a nice atmosphere at work.

Cuzcothellama · 02/12/2018 01:12

Yep. Late shift, usual NHS bank holiday rates.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/12/2018 01:17

Scrumptiousbears
Thata hard. But Given they're so little, can you just move Xmas two days. Do presents and lunch etc on 27th, usual boxing day activity on the 28th.
Home movie day l, walk out etc on 25th and shops / cinema etc on boxing day? They'll never remember it was late

SleepingStandingUp · 02/12/2018 01:18

And to all those working in vital services over Xmas and New Year, thank you

dontgobaconmyheart · 02/12/2018 03:09

Not me but my DP is doing the same as you OP, a 7-3 shift, as well as an evening shift Xmas eve and boxing day. I'd not mind but its just the two of us over xmas. The extra 50p is a bit of a slap though isn't it. DP gets time and a half (I think) but still....HmmFlowers

SD1978 · 02/12/2018 04:10

Have done for the last 10 years. My first Christmas off will be in three years time. Already making plans and looking forward to it!!

SleighBellsRing · 02/12/2018 06:16

My husband usually works part of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and/or Boxing Day to give those that celebrate, and are on shift, time with their families. One of the many reasons I married him is his kind heart :) We are away this year but I know he will do his best to make sure everyone gets some time off over Christmas.

LaDaronne · 02/12/2018 07:40

DH works every Xmas day and NYE. Part of the job. He's in the entertainment industry. I don't mind Xmas, we just celebrate another day instead, but I'm a bit bummed out I never get to celebrate NYE.

SockQueen · 02/12/2018 08:16

Not this year but have in the past (doctor). No extra pay but we do get a day in lieu.

GaryBaldbiscuit · 02/12/2018 08:17

yes, just a few afternoon hours and i have no idea about the pay
