Haven’t seen that film in so long, that’s my lazy Sunday evening sorted then.
Mermaids is brilliant (raised by a slightly crazy single mum, brings back some lovely memories).
Beaches makes me cry every time.

'Still Life' starring Eddie Marsan.. the ending blew me away.
Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool

Lots already mentioned here too

The Help is brilliant! You will love it.

Driving Miss Daisy. It’s another one with Jessica Tandy in and she’s brilliant.

PennyWishes1 · 02/12/2018 11:05

Oh Gosh. You guys are legends!
I don't even know where to start. Some fabulous ideas for me here. Beaches has been one of my favourites forever! Have watched a lot of these suggestions but making a quick list now, of new to me movies. I'm thinking a bit of drama, shed a wee tear and a little bit of comedy for good measure. Dismal, rainy day here so fire on and sofa ready! Who's boiling the kettle? BrewCake X

A bit of a curveball, but “In Her Shoes” has comedy, drama, female relationships, tears and a happy ending.

I rewatched Steel Magnolias 2 weeks ago! Is a film that is very similar to Fried Green Tomatoes.
Driving Miss Daisy is another along the same vein, and, as you've said you love - Beaches is good.

I liked 9 - 5 (with Dolly Parton too), though not watched it for decades so don't know how it has dated.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri. Funny, heartbreaking and humane. Can be triggering.

bookmum08 · 02/12/2018 13:09

Read the book too. It's by Fannie Flagg. One of my all time favourite books. She has written other books too. Her most recent was about American female pilots in WW2.
