How much does your 6 month old eat?

I started my little one on solids 3 weeks ago. We stopped because he had a bad cold and wasn't drinking enough milk.

He has been doing better the last couple of weeks but only manages a couple of spoonfuls at a time. He usually does better with finger foods but sometimes chews a bit then spits it out.

Is this normal? All the babies in my NCT group are wolfing down full meals.

Remember 'food is for fun until they're 1'
Your baby will get all the nutrients they need from the milk, food is to intro flavours & textures .

Don't worry at all.

Thank you he has managed a few more spoonfuls today. I tried him with a pouch as I thought my home made purée might be too lumpy.

I know he gets a lot from his milk but he is breast fed and won't take a bottle. I am trying him with different cups but he hasn't got the hang of it yet. I would like to be able to leave him to go and do some keeping in touch days to prepare for going back to work but if he won't have anything to eat or drink I can't do that.

My DS wasn't interested in food AT ALL until he was 10 months. I offered at every meal and he would pull a face and spit it out.

Then one day I offered him mac n cheese like I had several times before and ate the lot. I wasn't worried, he got there in the end.

Have you actually seen the babies at your NCT group wolfing down full meals or are the mums telling you? In my experience bragging mothers at NCT groups should be taken with a pinch of salt. Your baby will take a while to get used to new tastes and textures it sounds perfectly normal to me.

Blackladybug that's a relief to hear that your DS wasn't interested in food until 10 months. Hopefully if I keep offering one day he will take it.

I have seen some of the babies eat and they are eating quite a lot in one sitting.
