Odd reaction to deep heat spray?

youarenotkiddingme · 01/12/2018 20:42

Sprayed some deep heat on ds shoulders today and a small patch on his back.

Within 10 minutes his whole body was covered in what looked like heat rash?

He's used it before and not had this.

It went down after about 30 minutes. He did have a rinse in the shower after 15 minutes.

Anyone experienced this or have any ideas?

I react to it too and can't use it

I get this too. My skin goes bright red and stings and burns like hell.

I've heard that allergic reactions are often to something you've been exposed to before. Not sure if that true, but definitely sounds like an allergic reaction. Do you have any anti-histamines? They might make him more comfortable if it's still an issue.

I can't use it. I sprayed it on (the small of my back only) after a hot bath once (I don't know if this had a bearing). My back was bad, hence the hot soak. My whole body 'blushed' and went boiling hot, my heart was pounding and I thought I was going to pass out. This was a long time ago, before the current awareness about anaphylaxis. I sat down and breathed deeply, not quite knowing what was going on. Fortunately it passed off after about 15 minutes. I believe, but I may be wrong, that it was the wintergreen in it. Perhaps someone knows. Anyway, I have never used it again, obviously.

I have a ds who gets covered in hives if he uses it.

Last time I used Deep Heat I had a reaction similar to Lucisky but as well as all of that I felt like my throat was closing, my tongue was swelling and it was hard to breathe. I had a huge, raised, red welt in the exact shape of where it had been applied. The reaction was almost instant, within seconds of it being applied. DH didn't know what to do so brought me a bottle of Piriton which I took two hefty swigs from and it really helped, he also got a cloth and started washing over and over the area where I'd applied it. He rang 111 and by the time the doctor rang back I was feeling much better so said I would follow up with my own GP.

GP said that next time I will probably have an even worse reaction so I should avoid contact with it and has marked all my records with an allergy alert. When I was I'm hospital to have DD I had a red wristband instead of a white one to warn staff I had a severe allergy and they should check my records before administering to me. Lots of staff were curious and would ask what am I allergic to. Felt like a right dick replying "Deep Heat" as if they're going to bust out a tube of it mid-caesarean Confused

Yes my partner! He's fine with the cream but his whole back, shoulders and chest came out in a rash. I was really concerned so made him wash it off and take an antihistamine.

youarenotkiddingme · 02/12/2018 19:26

I'm so sorry you've all bad reactions too but so glad it's not just ds!

I must admit I shit myself as he went tomato as he use to have idiopathic anaphylaxis and carried an epipen until 4 years ago.
I didn't have any antihistamine on me and he felt fine and it went on its own - thankfully.

Me too. It always used to make my skin itchy but last time when I sprayed it on my ankle the skin came up in lumps. They didn't last long but the skin was red and painful for days, felt like sunburn. I wonder if the ingredients have changed?
